Howdy Y'all!
I finally have some Hawaii photos for you.
I have decided to break the Hawaii photos into two or more parts due to the amount of photos that I managed to take while I was in Hawaii last month.
Attached to this email are some photos of surfers that I met and photographed while on the island of Oahu. If you like to surf, the time to go to Oahu is in Feb/March due to the large 30-40 Foot waves that crash onto the north shore of the island.
Even though it was overcast and raining, these persistent individuals still polished their boards and headed to the waves. I have to admit, it was difficult to shoot these action shots on an overcast day because I had to set my camera settings to compensate for the low light. And also don’t let the overcast days fool youâ€Â¦You still get very sunburned.
One thing I have to say about surfers is that they have heart. As I was shooting these guys, I was given the opportunity to hang out with several of them. I recall one conversation with a surfer who had just came out from the beach. He had cut and bruises from the punishment that the waves endured on him. It appeared to me that he had a bad day. However he managed to always keep a positive tone on his voice full of enthusiasm as we spoke.
I pointed out that he was badly injured and he just laughed it off. His exact words were "Its just another day of surfing dude!" (he reminded me of that turtle in that Pixar Movie "Finding Nemo"). Then I proceeded to ask, "why do you do this?". Suddenly silence broke out and without hesitation he saidâ€Â¦."Because I love it". Then he proceeded to explain, "See, there are all kinds of people out there on the waves right now. Big dudes, small dudes, hot chics, not so hot chics , kiddos, old timers. Dude! I mean surfing is for everyone. And it is only done by those who love it. When you have a bad day, you just get up and go back in the next. You never give up what you love doing"
And without another word I was on the same page with him. See, it doesn’t matter what you do, or what people say. As long as you love what you do, and you give it your all heart. Failures are just learning experiences that will encourage you to keep doing what you love to do. Success will follow.
Hope y'all enjoy the photos.
