Nothing as weird as you guys, ewwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!

I have eaten squid, it's pretty common around here. I don't like it. Also cod tongues, don't like those either.

My favourite treat that a lot of people find weird is mustard and sugar on buttered bread. Yum!!

Well, had the usual snails, frog legs, horse and shark
But nothing as exciting as ants or grasshoppers !!!!

Did have kangaroo meat in Strasbourg last year..very nice, but felt a tad strange eating it as I know there will be a kid stuck down a water well in the Australian outback that will never be rescued now I have eaten Skippy ;-)

Alan eats threads? That IS weird.

You can add shark, skate, frog legs, tripe and rattlesnake to my list. All good stuff, but you have to watch out for the wheels on skate.

One time I was hiking with a buddy in the French countryside. I got a touch of heatstroke and was miserable by late afternoon when we arrived at the farmhouse where we had arranged to have dinner and spend the night, but I was cheered by the cute little lamb frolicking around the side yard. After a refreshing nap, I came downstairs and the first thing I saw was the lamb's head stuck on a post while the rest of it slowly roasted on a spit.

That is the problem, they are so deliciously cute!

Mmmmmm.

p.s This shot's from my first Wedding shoot last weekend!

I grew up in Albania, so I've had some interesting things. Of course, I've had escargot, and other western European delicacies, but the winner for me was sheep brains. We visited a Village in the mountains of Albania and the head of the sheep/goat/critter being served for dinner was considered the honored guests portion of dinner... We sat down (me and my family) only to be served the whole (well, lobotomized) sheep head as our meal. It was interesting... I honestly think I've blocked out the taste from my memory. =]

And then here in New Orleans we boil crawfish and suck the heads, and eat deep fried pig skin. Yum.

My favorite oddity to eat, however, has got to be peanut butter on bologna. Again, yum!

One of my favorite TV commercials of all time was for BBQ sauce. It started out with soft, heartwarming descriptions of various farm animals ("the pig: one of the most intelligent creatures on earth..., the lamb: a symbol of peace and fragility...") then ends with a regular guy in a chef's hat saying, "Hey, here's an idea...let's EAT em'!"

I couldn't find it on YouTube, but...

At first I read that as "Alabama," and was thinking, "Wow, sheep brains. I thought possum was bad!"

My ex-mother in laws cooking. Talk about bad... I think it tops everything here on this list.

I found it myself, thank you :) Obviously bull testicles will have to be mentioned here somewhere.

Kangaroo, emu, crocodile, buffalo - nothing really remarkable about any of those.

Spider crabs in sushi (which you eat whole) - delicious!

Snails, frogs legs; raw oysters right off the rocks.

The best of all: green ants! You bite off their butts, and whilst I have problems with the concept as such, they taste fantastic.
If someone squeezed out a few hundred green ant butts for you, put it all in a glass and called it a cocktail, you would LOVE it! It tastes very fruity, sweet but with a slightly tart edge and a little bit fizzy. It is divine!!!!!!!
On top of all that it was great revenge because those little monsters bite - hard!

I know I'm forgetting a few other delicacies, but you get the drift.... I'm pretty brave :-)

This thread needs photos.

Swamp Cabbage/ heart of palm. Swamp Cabbage Festival

Gator tail, when you feel lucky or brave.

COOTER!
Some of the local fun stuff that we eat.
Back in my music days, we were playing a club with about 500 in the crowd. Our front man Lonnie, who had just returned from Italy, had been eating octopus while there. He was talking about being hungry, so he announced from the stage, "I'm so hungry that I could eat the testicles off an octopus!" He meant tentacles, but the crowd thought it was pretty funny.

Though they're called "spider rolls," those are made with soft shell crab (generally blue crab just after molting). I'm not sure spider crabs are even edible. Then again, the same could be said for many things in this thread, and I didn't know Beetles ate ants either.

No doubt you're right.... I try not to think too much about exactly WHAT I'm eating at times like that, but I find it interesting that you can eat those things shell and all and still enjoy it!

Edited to fix my messy quoting

It would have to be some serious emergency before I wipe my mouth with something else's nose.

A friend had a top o the food chain BBQ a few years ago... Zebra, Turtle, Wildebeest e.t.c. God knows why wildebeest is the bottom of the food chain cause it tastes just plain awful. Add the usual kermit de frog type stuff (crock, frog, snail...). Some here outside the aussies would think Kangaroo is odd but it tastes amazing if you ever get the chance.

Raw shrimp. Prepared by laying it on the aluminum boat seat and cutting it into 4 chunks for the 4 members of the crew. It was de-hulled but not de-veined. It was found in Bogue Sound North Carolina on a flounder gigging expedition. It was gigged just like the flounder we caught. Oh, BTW, the shrimp was about 12 inches long and I'd estimate it to be a 8 per pound count. I've never seen one larger.

Puffin? Awwww....

In no particular order:
Uni (sea urchin) yes it's weird but I like it
Calves brains (squishy)
snails, bull balls, monkfish liver, shrimp heads

Curried goat
Roast pigeon
Periwinkles
Pig's trotters (feet)

But the weirdest thing for me, personally, are oysters with tabasco and lemon, straight out of the shell. I just can't get used to eating them.
