I was wondering the other day, would it make sense to trade up one of these:

//www.dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=792

and one of these:

//www.dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=1358

to get ONE of these?

I haven't had my Tamron 28-75mm very long, but these two lenses are very tempting. They both cover the same focal lengths that I currently cover with 2-3 lenses, and these two have VC (vibration control). One of them is an XR lens, so I would think it would be similar quality to my 28-75mm lens. Am I right? I'm not really seriously considering giving up my 28-75mm Tamron, but if I were would it make sense to do this or would I be sacrificing lens quality to gain VC and have fewer lenses?

Sorry, I forgot to create the links. Thanks for the fix.

Now... does anyone have some input?

I have the Tamron 18-270mm VC //www.dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=1687 and honestly, I was frustrated/disappointed with it. Main frustration was slow AF, zoom sticks mid-range. Personally, I think the slop in the barrel contributed to slightly OOF results. I would say pass on the 18-270 Tamron. If you have a photo shop that rents the lenses you are interested in; I would rent, try them out, see if they meet your needs. But again, this was my experience with the Tamron... If you're happy with the performance of your current Tamron lenses, I would say keep what you have and pass on the "super zooms."

I think there are about a dozen DPC users who are listed as owners of that lens (18-270mm), half Canon, half Nikon.

Here's the link to the Canon version of the of the 18-270,
//www.dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=1686
and the 28-300,
//www.dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=793
You can see images taken with those lenses by real users... not just ad photos.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the link to that other thread lky623, it was very helpful. Looks like the general consensus is that it's not that great.
