I'm trying to determine whether or not to keep my F100 and MB-15 grip. I need a 35mm SLR for my photography class at college. Using my D300 is out until I can get into a digital class.
I like shooting with the F100. But an opportunity to sell it to a girl in my class for $350 has arisen. If I do that, I'll both make money from what I bought it from and be able to purchase an F4s for $175. So I'd still have a 35mm SLR, and I'd also get a little bit of money to pocket and (probably) spend on more supplies for this class.
So the question is, ye Nikon shooters of olde-- Would you rather shoot with a more modern F100, or go with the legendary workhorse of a camera that is the F4s and get a little bit of moolah to pocket? |

Either one is old school at this point, I like the feel of the F4 better, and if you can pocket a bit if change to boot, why not?
Ya, I know I'm Canon now but I still have my film kit which is all Nikon. |

| I have an F4 & it's definitely a 2-hands camera, it weighs a TON. Even to turn it on, I have to use 2 hands. But it is legendary. |

the F100 is gonna feel more normal in your hands would be my guess. as compared to your d300.
though i've always used canon equipment.

| I've shot the F4s and really liked it. The F100 will outperform it in the AF dept. So, unless you need the money the F100 will do just as good as the F4s. There are many things to go wrong with old cameras, and the F4 is really starting to get old. If you can find the site online that correlates the serial numbers with age of the F4 you might want to go that route and see just how old the F4 is. 175 sounds mighty cheap... but.... film cameras continue their downward spiral. Boy I wish I had some money right now. I'd get a F6. |

Everything has already been asked at least once on the interweb. :) F4s Vs. F100 on photo.net
I didn't read the results but photo.net usually has good info. |

I only used an F4 once or twice, but I loved getting to use an F100- If I hadn't had the pile of Pentax glass I would've gotten an F100 in an instant.
If someone told me I had to use an F4 or an F100 for the rest of my life- I'd take the F100.
I am sure there are lots of people who would go the other way.
How's that for a non-committal answer.
On a side note- Eight years ago I would've never thought you could get an F100 for $375

The other option is I spend a bit of money and go up to Kenosha from Chicago (2 and half hours) by train and get an F5 that was offered to me for $250.
I dunno if I can wait till the weekend though, and that's almost certainly when I'd have to do it. Hence the F4s. |
