Lancaster Fire Department Burning of abandoned Motel rooms

The photo's I posted in a previous thread are from the sister building that we burned two weeks ago. Today we torched this one and I set up my camera to take time lapse shots (every 10 seconds). The linked video shows ~40 minutes worth of shots.

I'm the tall bald one you see at one time.

It was REALLY hot.

We had to cut one of the trees down on the left because the radiant heat started it on fire. We also had to hose down a neighboring building and one of our fire trucks. At the height of the fire where my camera was located was hot too. My daughter thought it was both too hot and too bright. As you can tell in the movie it went a lot faster than we expected. We hadn't finished laying the hose before fire was billowing out everywhere.

It's still burning now, but we're no longer there. They were throwing more brush and other stuff on it when we left. No point in us sitting there all day when the owners can for us. *grin*

Was an accelerant used to spread the fire inside the building, or did it just go up that quick? It seemed to spread really, really, fast?

Impressive!

Yes, we had poured about a cup of gasoline in each section (maybe two cups in the one on the far right of the frame.

So I have been to lots of FD practice burns in my life but could not for the life of me see what practice you all got out of this one. What gives?

It's amazing....how it would have taken them, probably a few months to build the dwelling...and in 40 minutes...it's all gone. Just makes you realise how quick it does and can happen.

We actually did all of our training over a two week period on a sister building. This one we were just burning to get rid of it for the owner. This is the thread from our second week of training.

The following pics are from the thread posted above (they do not include all of the shots taken, just some of the dramatic ones)...
