I have some news that has taken me through a gamut of emotions over the last 24 hours. I'm going to be a grandmother. I'm not too happy about the situation, but I guess it's not really my choice. Anyway, my new model should arrive in about 7 months. |

Aww, Kelli - what a huge announcement ! Is it mom or dad that is your own baby ?
I'm thinking your new model should arrive about the same time as my own.
I won't say congratulations - yet. We'll save that for when the news has had time to settle in.

It's my daughter. She'll be 21 on the 7th. I know she's not a kid in years, but she still is in so many other ways. The father hasn't been a very good boyfriend, so I'm worried about what kind of father he'll make. And of course I have to worry how much will fall to me. |

Hopefully, with fatherhood looming, he'll gain some responsibility and wise up towards your daughter and be there for their child. It's early yet, but parenthood changes people so dramatically - even when they are young beyond their years.
I'm sure my parents would have told you that I was a young, naive, irresponsible and lazy person a few short years ago. Okay, I may still be lazy, but I would do ANYTHING for my kids.
Good luck to all of you.
When is this little blessing due to arrive ?

Last week of October/1st week of November. She doesn't have an actual due date yet. She's 8 weeks. |

:) She's only about a week or so farther along than I am then.
Good luck, Grandma - I'm sure everything will work out somehow, even if it's not in the way you had originally hoped or planned.

Thanks Lea. Maybe if enough people tell me that, I'll start to believe it. LOL! |

I just hope that someone is telling it to my step-dad and in-laws right now too. I'm sure they need it.

ROFL! At least you're married and in your own home. She lives home, off of mom! |

My mom claims that she wishes she could have had the grandchildren first. :)
Sometimes things DON'T go the way we planned or want them to, but they can still be a huge blessing!!! |

Kelli,
Sometimes it is those things we're not so sure about that turn out to be the best surprises. I wish you the best of luck and many many many photos.

Which goes to show the futility of our arbitrary age laws sometimes. I've known 17 year olds that have had to drop that kind of news on their parents, but were already living on their own with solid jobs and barely ever needed much help at all once the baby arrived, and I've known 30 year olds that couldn't handle the pressure, and never held down a job, and were STILL living at home!
Chin up though, as others have said, parenthood can 'magically' transform people sometimes, and the reality is often much less terrorizing than the fears. You'll love that little babe more than you can imagine, and it'll help you through the rough times, and appreciate the good times that much more.
Congrats on the impending grandparentationĂ¢„¢. Savor it. |

Congratulations to all you little baby- and grandbaby havers. My son, who's 22 and has no qualifications, not even the basic schooling ones, told me a little over a year ago that I could expect to be a grandfather. This meant that his girlfiend, who was doing some sort of study course in sound engineering (on account of her heavy metal tendencies) was thus unable to finish her course. Out popped the little angel, I'm sure you saw the pics, and shortly afterwards she's post natally depressed and he's having to stay at home with no money from his commission only job and the rent's not paid and they're in a hospice...
All in the past, suffice to say everything's working out just fine - the little girl's a superstar.
I could tell you not to worry, but I guess worrying's part of it. I'm optimistic. |

Oh, the Hell with polite and PC.
Congrats, and remember, you're the Grandma which means you get all the best parts of parenting!
You'll love being a Grandma!
Nice of you to have the ethical considerations and the responsibility enough to worry, but you'll be fine!
I have all the faith in the world in you......You're an outstanding humanoid!

Just be the best grandma you can be, and I have no doubt that you will :) Pray for the best and enjoy the time you will have with the new little pumpkin. I'm sure you will have tons of wonderful holiday photos to share with us :) |
