Okay, You have 300$ and a Nikon D200 body, but you don't own a single lense for it. What would you buy? and why? After buying the D200 body, I'm pretty much flat broke, even though it was only 600$, I'm still hurting.

Anyway, I came across a 18-200mm Tamron for like 269.99, but there is no VR. So I'm curious what you guys would do and what lense you think would give you the most versatility? I say that because I'm not going to be able to buy any gear for awhile. Anyway, I mainly shoot landscapes and wildlife, so I'm trying to find a single lense that can do both ( yes I know there is no such thing, but I'm trying to at least get close) Well, any and all information is appreciated and thanks for looking...

Sounds similar to the deal I found. I have a Tamron 28-300 that I bought used for $225. I'm pretty happy with it. That 18-200 may be a little more versatile because it goes a bit wider than mine. I find I am swapping out with my 18-55 kit lens quite a bit when I want more wideangle. VR would be nice, of course, but you can do just fine without it. Especially at that price. You learn some techniques to stabilize yourself at low shutter speeds. I say it's a good deal.

50mm F/1.8 Cheap
You should always have a prime lens first, IMO

I like the 50mm 1.8 (need to buy a new one after breaking mine late last year), but I don't think it is the lens I would choose if I could only have one lens. For landscapes and wildlife, I think the combination of wideangle and a decent amount of zoom would do well. I found I used my 50mm for tripod work, but dis not use it much outdoors.

The D200 will work with the older all manual Ai Nikkor/Nikon lenses, the Nikkor Q 200mm f4 is an inexpensive way to get started for wildlife. The 50mm 1.8 Ai is a great lens too, and can also be found cheap on eBay. For general all around inexpensive shooting, the 18-70 G ED can be found for under $200, and it's a great walkabout lens.
I can't help you about VR, because I have never tried it.

The 50mm 1.8 is the most bang for your buck and you would still have a few bucks left over towards a flash if need be. I recently read an interesting post on the Tamron 28-75 2.8 is Take a look at the quality of shots with the canon version also. Looks incredible for the price.

I subscribe for the Tamron 28-75 2.8.
I am not a Nikon but with my Canon 40D and previously 350D got some very nice results. No regrets!

Edit: I just noticed an IS. Mine no IS... Is there an IS out?
