The Rockwell Thread is a good indication why people would leave. It seems funny we would propagate that sort of drivel on one hand and then whine when we get targeted with it on the other.

If anyone is wondering why the "Big Shiny Apple" is rotting, its because threads like that are allowed to fester in the background.

Oh well, just my two cents.

The Big Shiny Apple is nowhere near rotting, it just has a few bruises on it.

Some people ignore them and eat the apple anyway.

Some people think they actually make the apple taste better.

Some people cut them out and eat what's left.

Some people look at it in disgust and toss the whole apple away, sadly missing a giant part of some perfectly great apple.

Wow, thanks for the clarity man! I never looked at this situation so Metaphorically before. Excuse me while I scratch my arse and take a purdy picture.

You are incredibly welcome. I'm always glad to help open some minds now and then, even sarcastic ones.

Eddie, pickin a fight are ya? Step off the Ivory tower for a bit will ya and go win a ribbon. Shall we continue?

Are you seriously suggesting that ribbon winners are the only voices to which one should listen? I hope it's a joke.

Boys, boys, boys....*sigh* If you break anything with your roughhousing you'll have to pay for it out of your allowances. Now knock it off! :P

Well, if your user icon is any indication, we won't have to resort to any of that. You're taking yourself out ;D

Wow........

Ivo, regarding the Rockwell thread. It was three years old this year and imho only until recently took a sharp decline in behavior (which was exhibited in other threads at the same time as well). Which quite frankly was and is people being too damned self-absorbed riding around on high horses like their shit don't stink and taking everything too seriously and turning everything into a debate or argument. I think it is normal for people to focus around a point of attention and fame like Rockwell and debate his merits and faults, that is part of being famous imho. However everyone turning on each other like the world is going to end if they don't "win" their argument isn't normal, at least for DPC. As Paula Cole sang "Where have all the Happy Puffy times gone."... and it isn't just the people cracking insults and launching personal attacks against one another either but also who complain about any debating at all, regardless of how "friendly" it is blowing everything into some massive deal that the SC needs to be bothered every 5 minutes about.

I personally disagree with the SC closing the thread but only because I'm not sure it addresses the underlying reasons for the thread and also the underlying problems with the attitudes of some within that thread. But since I don't have a better idea atm I accept the current situation in that case.
---

mikeee, lol I know, I will try harder this week to leave for good. Make some rants, get people pissed off, steal everyone's ribbons and flee in the night. I would be tempted to restart the Rockwell thread but I think there are other more serious issues preventing that at this time, all I can say on that.
---

I love how Jon has hijacked my thread just by showing up lol, welcome back Jon, you have been missed. :)
---

pedrobop, I thank you for the compliment but I don't see myself as special in a photography sense, at least when it comes to pleasing voters lol. I still have so much to learn that I feel very uncomfortable giving advice to others about their photography. I also have perhaps a too liberal view on what meets a challenge and what is art.
---

K10DGuy, interesting wording and format you use. ;)
---

How a tussle can get started even in a thread like this one I think goes to make my point above.

Anyway, thanks again to those who showed me a last moment of understanding and kindness, it was grossly needed, just when I thought DPC would let me down... it didn't. *more hugs*

And don't forget the tough love... Oh, wait, that was in the *other* "I'm leaving DPC forever" thread :-)

Gosh, Togtog, I haven't had the pleasure of knowing you yet, but after reading thru this thread, I was really sorry to see you go, and now I'm really happy you changed your mind :) Sounds like dpChallenge is a much better place because you are here.

togtog - Have you left the building yet? I too grew very disenchanted with dp and have been very much touch and go in the past year. I have entered challenges but not every week like in the beginning. I needed to leave because I was just too frustrated at not having the kind of popular subject material in my neck of the woods that dp hungers for. However, I do check in every once in awhile. Look up old friends. Send a few hi's and check out the forums, but overall dp has not consumed me as it once did. It was a good thing. I still haven't settled on one particular type of photography to find my "voice" but I am much closer than when I started at dp. Hope the break will be fruitful for you and that you will settle into a rhythm and voice that suits your interests.
I think the best thing that happened to me was joining a meetup group in my state. We take monthly trips to various places in the state and I get to talk photography and compare notes with others using the same subject place. It has helped me sooo much that now I am much more comfortable in my photo skin than ever before.

This is it, I have decided, I am leaving. Looking back at the last few years I can see that some things are just not working and I need to meet the challenges of life like I always did; so that is for me, and I am saying bye for now.
It̢۪s always nice to know so many nice people here, but it̢۪s 8 am and I have to leave to work, like I do every day. See you later guys.

I'm leaving, too!

I'm dropping off some ancient dakroom equipment to a fellow photog, then I'm going to work.

I may stop at the grocery store, and hopefully I'll find something to shoot while I'm out.

Later......8>)

JunieMoon, thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I did leave but I have returned already, but I am probably going to stick to being a non-paid member and only enter open challenges if any. We'll see how things go.

As for the suggestion of the photography meetup I am socially paranoid and don't like groups of people, buuut I am slowly relaxing and will keep that in mind as that does sound like fun.

Thanks again :)

SandyP, hehe wait until you get to know me to say it is a pleasure to meet me, I've driven some folks here batty before ;) But seriously I'm no more special than anyone else, I'm just trying to move forward fast enough not to get eaten by the tiger while taking enough time to get a shot or two of it chasing me. :) Thank you for the warm welcome :)
