Worth asking - my insurance policy covers any unnamed individual item to £1000, but I am in the UK. |

"You break it, you buy it!"
A very valuable life lesson. Sounds like the wee one needs to take up a paper route. |

Horses and barn doors, but... this is why there are aftermarket protectors for the LCD screens. With kids around, might be a good idea to invest in one. They are not expensive.

well tough luck. looks like it fell onto concrete or tile...
and the canons - most of them are made of magnesium alloy - not some cheapo plastic. besides - the glass broke. not the body.
i know your post was in jest - but all the same. if you think they're tougher, why don't you test your nikon out and post a synopsis :?

There's a fun game!:) Everyone go get your camera and drop it on the floor and lets see whose comes out the least damaged. I know that it would make me feel better! Lol! :) |

Sure! If it doesn't get damaged enough, run over it with your car and let us know if you can still take a picture with it. :) |

In another forum, the guy cracked his 50d screen and got a $320 quote from Canon to fix it for parts/labour. The 50d screen is newer and higher res but the labour costs will be the same I suspect.
There are other forums on flickr and elsewhere but this problem doesn't seem to crop up very much.
It must be fixable, just depends on how much money you want to throw at it. |

Really... interesting. Sorry to be off topic, but I'm actually writing a paper about this as we speak. Being a Korean adoptee myself, I am interested in your thoughts on this. Mind if I send you a PM? |

Do ask your insurance agent. I was pleasantly surprised to find my company covered the theft of my cameras and lenses a couple of years ago and I did not have a rider or anything similar.

Yes! Absolutely! Adoption is my favorite topic in the world right now, I'm totally an open book about it. I would LOVE to hear from you as a Korean adoptee as well! You can PM me or just e-mail me at Wenders11@aol.com if you want. I also have an adoption blog that is updated frequently if you're interested in following our story. www.heartontheline.blogspot.com.

Oh, and thank you to everyone who gave me advice yesterday! I actually called a camera repair shop here who I've worked with in the past and I was surprised to find that it's not as expensive to fix as I though. While still not CHEAP, they quoted me under $300 for a new LCD screen. I thought it was going to be a lot worse than that. Still cheaper than my $500 insurance decuctable and WAY cheaper than a new camera.
Thanks again everyone! |

Not to hijack the thread, but I want to wish you the very best on your upcoming adoption. I adopted internationally twice, both time were incredible. |

I'm sure your sun is way more worried than you, don't be too tough on him! heheh!

I second the insurance thing...not exactly the same, but years ago...someone broke into our vehicles, parked in our driveway and stole shot guns, tape player, coats...all covered under our home owners insurance. Yes, broken into and stolen, but not even in the house and the house insurance covered..you just never know. :) Hope it all works out. |
