To all DPC or at least to those who care,

Well I've finally decided to depart DPC. I may return at some point but I don't have any idea when. I want to thank those of you who have been patient with me, answered my questions, given me advice and direction, and those of you who have taken the time to comment on my photography. I would also like to thank those of you who gave me something to laugh at and to those who inspired me to be better than I previously was.

I would like to thank Langdon for creating this unique experience and in caring for it for all of these years, there are no words sufficient for this.

As for why I am leaving it is partly personal and partly DPC.

Personally I feel my interest in photography is waning again. I had used DPC as a compass to find direction in my photography and to encourage me to get up and out to shoot. I feel now that this is wrong, and that if I am to continue photography it should be by following my own compass and finding my own reasons to shoot, even if it is just pictures of spoons.

I also feel that for me at least DPC is a beautiful shiny red apple, that is somehow being eaten or rotted from the inside, hollowed out, becoming more and more empty. I do not place blame on this to anyone and it may be my own feelings, it might just be a sign of the times too. Lately however I've found myself leaving DPC each time feeling a little worse, a little more empty than I did. The photography is still excellent and I still see people helping one another so I know that isn't the reason.

But I guess this is it, I just didn't want anyone to wonder about what happened to me. I might still pop in once in a while but no promises.

Thanks again DPC *hugs and kisses*,

dang it, togtog we're going to miss you around here. You have a sensitive voice that needs to be heard.

I have also noticed a significant change in DPC over the past months, but will wait for it to change again, as I feel this community is truly greater than some of its parts. (to misuse a perfectly good aphorism)

Good luck to you, and well, come back again one of these days.

This is good self advice. I have just been over a year finding and following my own compass to do what you are trying to do now. After I found my answers, I decided to re-join this community... just in the last couple weeks. My interest in photography has never faltered though. I have never lost that passion. I just had to spend some time thinking about what it is that I wanted to do and how to go about doing it. After finding those answers, I think returning here will be beneficial to me.

In the beginning, this site inspired me to become proficient with my camera and pay attention to details. As I got comfortable with all of that, I discovered that I was spending all my time shooting photos for the purpose of impressing other people. In my departure, I focused on making photographs that impressed me instead. Now that I'm comfortable with what I do, I think I can continue to grow as a photographer within this community...

I hope your absence is as productive as mine was and maybe we'll see you back down the road :)

I'm not far behind you but good luck to ya. I wish you the best of luck in all your photography experiences.

I don't like being called a rotter. I prefer "worm"

It's just like life: the newbies are the children--we learn from the parents, we ignore the parent's advice & get into our own trouble, we work to please. At some point the child grows up and leaves the nest and works to please himself. After awhile they settle down a decide to become a parent (and then run away screaming!)

You just came back, you're not allowed to leave again so soon. Hafta stay. I said so. So there :P

Sigh.... guess I can't be selfish... If you need to leave I understand, but I'll still miss ya :(

Sighs, I'm still here.... maybe I'm a bit more attached than I thought, otherwise I wouldn't have logged back in huh? Well, I can stick around and just not renew maybe I dunno... thank you for your kind words, I honestly wasn't fishing for encouragement to stay but I have to admit having received some that now I feel maybe I needed it.

So ok, I won't leave but I might be a little less active than I have been, especially since they locked the Rockwell thread, sighs.

But anyway I mainly just didn't want anyone else to PM me to make sure I was still alive/uninjured. I don't like worrying people needlessly.

Thanks again guys *hugs*

I for one was glad to see your return Jon, for those people who don't know Jon, I would say he was the first "Star" photographer on DPChallenge, in fact one of his shots still ranks highly in the all time best. It was Jon who inspired me to try and `get good`. I remember thinking that the Sony 707 camera must of been awesome because of the images he managed to tease out of it! Then I remember him getting his 10D and thinking how we was all doomed now he had a proper camera.. Really pleased to see you back Jon

I'm glad to see you back Jon!! Jon lent me his 'Double Exposure' photo of a Calla lily for my wedding theme. that has turned into 'the' photo that represents our wedding!

WTF, how will we attract new members if we don't have that thread reeling them in?

The coolest thing about Jon is that he got fired from the club that he started (Critique Club). All the coolest people do that. My dream is to get fired from Team Suck some day.

...or fired from the Posthumous Awards. That would be a laugh.

The Rockwell Thread is a good indication why people would leave. It seems funny we would propagate that sort of drivel on one hand and then whine when we get targeted with it on the other.

If anyone is wondering why the "Big Shiny Apple" is rotting, its because threads like that are allowed to fester in the background.

Oh well, just my two cents.

togtog, i'm new here and one of the guys who is making this place more empty. I really understand your arguments, but i think everything is probably related with those feelings you'r having about photography. I may no help you with this answer, but maybe you could stay here (like you said) and even you don't participate challenges, you could comment only photos you have something to add. Being here for so much time probably gave a lot of knowlege about photography and other stuff, and i think you would be really helpfull commenting at least those newbie's photos (like mine) to help us. And that may help you feel more excited about dpc and photography!

The Big Shiny Apple is nowhere near rotting, it just has a few bruises on it.

Some people ignore them and eat the apple anyway.

Some people think they actually make the apple taste better.

Some people cut them out and eat what's left.

Some people look at it in disgust and toss the whole apple away, sadly missing a giant part of some perfectly great apple.

That's the trouble with being Fearless leader....you can't be fired.

You have to be assassinated!

You are incredibly welcome. I'm always glad to help open some minds now and then, even sarcastic ones.
