Apologies for my ignorance, but can someone tell me how to do this? I'd love to have a go. |

you might find some good links on how to do it in this thread.
Welcome! We'll be having another side challenge in April, so I'll put you on my contact list - will probably have side challenge signups in the last week of March. Stay tuned... |

Count me in! I hope you'll be amenable to non-digital methods as well. I just ordered photo paper and darkroom chemicals -- and I just finished a box of oatmeal. Guess what I'm up to.
Of course, I'm still doing digital pinhole too.
As for having the challenge in April, what timing...

and this may be a digital photography site, but I have no problems with you going old school on us, show us all what we're missing!

I agree, I've been bad - I just haven't taken any lately. Gearing up for April, though.

Since the activity here is a bit slow, and I've heard rumors of an April Pinhole/Zone Plate SC, I thought I would post some of my favorite pinhole/zp shots from the DPC gallery: (click photos for photographer. sorry I din't post here yet.)
I know, one of them is mine. But it has been influenced by all the others...

My first pinhole shot:
It looks a bit softer than the usual pinhole shot. Does this mean the hole may be too big?
About the pinhole: drilled the camera cap with a 1mm drill, taped aluminum foil on the back of the cap and made a tiny hole with a needle.

I think the softness is just fine and to be expected from a pinhole however, you can always experiement by taping different sized pin holes. I was lazy and sent a cap off for a drilled pinhole, this is one of my favourite shots...

Sounds about right. The hole in the cap doesn't need to be so small, since you'll be taping over it anyway. In fact, if it's too small, you might restrict your field of view -- tunnel effect.
Foil is fine. It's what I used. Pie or cooking tin might be a better, less fragile option. It's what I use in my analog work. I worked the hole with the needle on both sides and used 800 grit clear coat sandpaper from an auto supply store to smooth it out. |
