Challenge: 100 Years Old (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Olympus E-410
Lens: Custom Made Zone Plate
Location: Ashland, OH
Date: Mar 8, 2009
ISO: 100
Shutter: 5 sec
Galleries: Landscape, Pinhole/Zone Plate
Date Uploaded: Mar 8, 2009

Zone plate.

I was fairly certain this wouldn't do too well. In fact, I'm surprised I only received two 1's. There were some great shots in the challenge, as usual. Fun to compete without a lens though.

Someone wondered if the oaks were indeed 100 years old, and that is a reasonable question. Those in our area I've talked with 'think' they are, but no one is certain. Maybe they are not.

This deserved a much better score. It's not easy to get a big score in any "Advanced Editing" challenge, even with a tack sharp shot. Thumbs up to you for entering a shot that is different from the "DPC norm" for this sort of challenge. I like it.

Welcome to the scary world of zp challenge submission! I'm heartened by how many people guessed that it was lensless instead of assuming you didn't know how to focus your lens "properly". "Breed familiarity" should be our motto!

Thanks for the follow up. I kind of wish you had picked a more obviously "old" subject. I figured it was a pinhole or zone plate shot and have been itching to reward such an entry. Challenge theme aside, I love the effect.

Pinhole? Nice processing but I'm not convinced these are 100 year old oaks.

I like the feel this gives, I think it's better than the score you will get here for it

I like the soft foggy feel and the border works well

Looks a little odd. Not sure if this is an intentional treatment or not.

Is that some pinhole goodness I see there?

The color of the grass is nice, but did you add a filter to this to get that look? I don't think it's really working here. If it was on the original like that, maybe a reshoot would have worked.

I love the foggyness of the photo. It looks old and antique. I like how the one "old oak tree" is the center of the photo but a little off balance.
