I put this in the rant section because its a political subject. I just though it would be fun to see what $9.7 Trillion would buy.

Do some research and post what that amount of money could purchase. I have research a few to get the thread started. They are based on current cost of inflation as of 2007. Some may ask where did I get the figure of $9.7 Trillion. You can get the figure from here. BTW lets see how may zeros is in $9.7 Trillion; $ 9700000000000.00

Here is my starter list.

What would $9.7 Trillion buy?
1. Alaska 91,890 times in today̢۪s dollars.

2. 4,409 B-2 Stealth Bomber at a price of $2.2 Billion each.

3. You could build an US canal spanning from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean making it almost impossible for illegal boarder crossings and putting millions of Americans to work in the process. Then when finished, tolls paid by ships passing through each year would pay for its upkeep, maintenance and personnel, including border agents. And have several trillions of dollars left over.

Lets see where your research leads you.

If I had 9.7 trillion dollars, I would buy my own walmart :)

Then I would buy a blue ribbon from each challenge.

Walmart has a market capitalization of about $200 Billion - you could buy the whole company several times over.

Or you could buy Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Hoya and Matsushita.

You do the following

4. You could build 240 Sears Towers in each fifty States (a total of 12000 Sears Towers) at a cost of $808307033.69 each in today̢۪s dollars.
5. You could by 64 ½ million homes valued at $250,000 each

Even better you could buy

6. You could buy 1.4 Billion Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III SLR Digital Camera

I'd build a floating lemon and ground beef sweater company. It would tip over every three minutes and at eight every night, it would launch investment bankers into orbit with huge rubber bands.

Why something so obscure?

Because I'd then be considered an eccentric artist .

lol

Oh heck: a thousand billion is a trillion. You can buy WalMart 5x over for a trillion. 9x5=45, so you could buy WalMart 45x over with 9.7 trillion, and still have 700 BILLION dollars left to shop in your own stores :-)

But I would only shop in one so why would I want more than 1???

I would also change my insurance company from GEICO just so I didn't save that 15% or more.

$9,700,000,000,000

Population of the USA (July 2008) 303,824,640, so that's $31,926 for each person, even little wee babies. So a family of four would get $127,705. Everyone could just go on a sweet vacation until the recession is over!

=======
If the USA wanted to be nice and just divvy it up for Canadians, 33,212,696 people would each get $292,057, or $1,168,228 for my family of four. :-O

I would give it all to North Korea in hopes that they will stop testing rockets and stop building nuclear reactors.

I think that I would give obama and all of congress $25.00 (that is all they are worth collectively but I would give them $25.00 each out of the kindness of my heart) to resign then I would give the money back to the people of the United States....

That would kind of be like giving a psychopath a gun in the hopes that he'd stop knifing people.
