I highly doubt that this shot would have scored as well as the portrait of your daughter did.
If that's any consolation. |

No outtakes for me. When the challenge was announced I immediately went straight to the shot I submitted and worked on it until I was happy and submitted it. I never even considered another. |

my entry:
i considered a few shots for this challenge. the only condition for me was to enter a shot i haven't posted in my portfolio so nobody had seen it before (which for me was the point in this challenge). the score would have probably been better with any of my outtakes, but i submitted a photo that has a deeper meaning to it (for me anyways) so i don't regret entering it instead.
so here are the other ones i considered entering, taken on my first trip outside europe back in 2005 to ecuador, which was an amazing experience for me.

I knew my entry would not do well in the scoring because of the blur, although it did garner an Honorable Mention over at Jones Soda some years ago.
The only other time one of my pictures has been picked out from the crowd like that was also a few years ago, when Michael Reichmann picked out this sunrise for a mostly-favorable critique at the Luminous Landscape site (a discontinued feature). I didn't think I could locate the original in time, so I pretty much dropped it from consideration for the challenge. I previously had it posted as a print with an oval vignette, but I've gone back and re-posted it full-frame. I've also added a little noise-reduction since the original editing several years ago.

Here are my outtakes, I like all of them for different reasons but in the end I went with my entry because it's a personal favorite.

You definitely chose the better one in my eyes. I am a sucker for the personification that comes from having an animal subject engage the audience in a photo. |
