Lots of discussion about what won, what shouldn't have, landscapes, oversaturation, undervoted, too many 1s and 2s....

But what about the journey? The 1000th challenge was quite the fun thing, I thought. Gave everyone a chance to peruse their archives, enjoy a few trips down memory lane, try out some new editing skills on an old photograph, or see something in a fresh new light given personal growth and change in perspective over time. People went all out to view, vote, and comment the entries. Now how 'bout we take some time to simply appreciate the activity rather than pick at the edges?

Go find the ones you enjoyed during voting. Check out the Posthumous ribbons thread to see what others enjoyed. Read some of the stories behind the photographs. While you're there, check out other stuff in the photog's portfolio. See. Learn. Enjoy the journey.

Indeed, but we're not there yet. I am waiting for the 1000th thread to appear with 1000th in the title. We're almost there, but not quite.

Thanks for not doing your part, Melethia...

Well, I could just ask to have the thread locked and start 900 more...

Lock please. And/or delete.

Just change the title.

Journey of 1000th Steps.

or

1000th Steps and Back Again

or

Well said. The benefit of this challenge had little to do with scores, much less winning or placing well. The benefit here was Participation. Entering, voting, commenting--people spent time and energy to Participate in this challenge, and we are all recipients: seeing all the images, contemplating them enough to comment, contemplating on comments received. I received more views, more votes during the challenge than ever before, and more comments than on any of my images ever.

I "placed" exactly in the 50th percentile--PERFECT: I am surrounded on all sides by wonderful photographers, wonderful images.

It's ALWAYS about the journey. Nonetheless I do savour my collection of divergent comments about as much as I did the process. But I am so slow. I only got to 2005, and to a pitifully small selection of the pictures I want to comment on.

*Thank you* so much for stating this!!!!! I was able to look a little this morning at some of the 'complaint' threads but quickly grew TIRED of it all.

We all fall into the trap of complaining; and I have certainly fallen into that trap, but when I do, I usually SLAP myself out of it or have someone else do it:-) :-)

I used the time I had constructively after a few strolls through the threads....how???: by spending that time looking at the entries that I had commented on, enjoying the stories that were there and who took them. I didn't have alot of time for I still have other things on my plate to do outside DPC.

But, rest assured, when I have a moment I will return to continue looking back AT THIS CHALLENGE and enjoy the photos and the stories they tell now that the photographer's comments are revealed to us. It is a journey, you just have to stop and *recognize* it as such.

I was THRILLED to finish in 307th place. For a newb like me, this was inspiring. What is not inspiring is to see a bunch of whiners going "boo hoo, I only got a 6.1574847y5843" (yes the "y" was added for emphasis...)

I'm excited, I finished higher than pi, and came in on the top 1,000, oh and enjoyed a few shots on the way :)

I'm actually pleased with how mine did, but I can whine and boo-hoo with the best of them when I have to.

I really lucked out, because I didn't have any of my favorites to enter--because I hadn't saved originals. The one I did enter was one I liked quite a bit, but I knew it had problems. So when I had criticisms because part was out of focus, I couldn't blame them--part was out of focus! (I couldn't have been more surprised when one person like the oof because it added movement!)

However, I actually understood someone's whining, because their shot (which I absolutely loved) had a large number of ones and twos. The thing that boggled my mind was that my photo, with all of its problems only had 1 one and 4 twos. While a wonderful, and technically superb photo had 15 ones and 10 twos. Now, they did score .5 above me, so I don't feel too bad, but I can see why the sheer number of very low scores could be bothersome.

The main problem is that these photos are the photographers favorite "child". You can't tell a mom or a dad that their child is ugly and stupid without getting punched in the face. Some people just need a punching bag at this moment.
