Well my Mum was of Scottish decent while my Dad came from Irish stock many, many generations ago. Being that my last name is Patrick so today's a green day for our family! I turned down corned beef and cabbage for a tender ribeye! Happy Saint Paddy's day to all!
PS. It goes that my ancestors were surfs along the border of Ireland and Scotland. When the landowners son was given charge of surfs he bestowed his first name "Patrick" upon the wretched workers so that there would be no question as to whom they owed their loyalty. True? I don't have a clue but it makes for good chit chat over a cold brew!

No offense to the German or English, but I take more pride in my Irish heritage - a country with a people who have had to fight constantly for their freedom and independence. A country with well deserved pride, they have not become arrogant and full of themselves. St. Patrick came from Rome at a time that the Irish were seriously being oppressed by the Brits. He ran out the snakes that had over run the land, and the Brits (hmm, perhaps the Brits were snakes too). So yeah, some of us go "head over heals". Besides it is a fun frolicking good time to share with your friends. Unwind and enjoy life today, whether you're Irish or not. |
I am totally in there with you - my ancestors originally came from France on one side (ended up being deported as cajuns later on) and from Ireland on the other. The ones from France came to America because they were persecuted protestants, the ones from Ireland came here as famished, persecuted Catholics. Talk about tough genetics!!
I make it a point of celebrating St.Patrick's Day each year, through food, music, legends and good fun. It is my way of honoring those who came before me and are not only a part of me but of my kids as well. And yes, I also celebrate my cajun roots through the annual "Frolic acadien" in my hometown. Always thought you had to know where you came from to know where you're going :) |

Everyone in the planet is African if you go back far enough, but people don't celebrate that do they?
And I like how somebody pointed out before that the US census "ESTIMATES" that 35m Americans have "Irish ties", jeezus, how ambiguous can you get?
I went out last night to a bar where everyone brought it upon themselves to drink Guinness and wear green. I'm sure it takes more than that to be Irish and it takes more than having Irish ancestors 9 generations ago.
But whatever, people will jump on any bandwagon I guess. However tenuous and imaginary the links, everyone enjoyed themselves. |

I'm thankful for all of my ancestors, because I wouldn't exist without them! :) |

Jayzus, what side of the bed did you wake up on this morning?
EDIT: Oh yes, Happy St. Patrick's Day, all. |
The British side. |

I'm Scotch, Irish, English, German, and Cherokee. I'm far too damn confused to celebrate some damn weird holiday where people wear green, drink green beer, and chase a bunch of fairy leprechauns around. |
