Wahooooo!...Now I can go and take that one second photo of my big toe....ugh...I have always wanted to do that...muuwwwaahhhh!!

Anyways...here is the link to the previous two-second challenge. And no...not all images (including the ribboners) were two second shots.

Creativity within the established bounds upon penalty of death - a real challenge!

Man that sucks... the top finished was a 1/2 second shot...

whoa, that's pretty cheap--why wouldn't it be dq'd?

DNMC is not grounds for DQ... So they just went with a slow lens (presumably) knowing it wouldn't be caught in the voting phase.

Maybe sometime we should have a challenge with specified aperture limits, at either the wide or closed end of one's camera's capabilities.

Because (until now) "DNMC" was not grounds for DQ.

EDIT: Wow, you guys are fast. :-)

Because it was not stipulated to be a DQable offence....but it is now! We can't change the rules of the past...but we can change the rules of the future.

Did I miss something? DNMC is now a DQ offense?
03/16/2009 12:18:41 AM · #10
Once I took a 1 second exposure and in the exif it read 0.77 seconds. I wonder if that counts! hahah.

No, there's a special rule for this challenge. The last time a "time" challenge ran, it only had to look like 2 seconds. This one has to BE exactly 1 second.

It is if it is posted as a "special extra rule" with the little flag icon -- it applies to this challenge only.

"Extra Rules: This time, your entry will be disqualified if you do not use shutter speed of 1 second. "

NICE!

I guess I did not see the diff with the old description of

Description
Take a photograph using a shutter speed of exactly 2 seconds

and the new one of:

Challenge Details: Take a photograph using a shutter speed of exactly 1 seconds.

Ah, I'm still pretty new at this--so I give people the benefit of the doubt. I assume that their photos meet the challenge (even if it's through someone's warped point of view :) But having a first place completely ignore the challenge description boggles my mind. Oh well, I'll also return money if they give me too much change.

I'm such an idiot. I did not notice:

Extra Rules: This time, your entry will be disqualified if you do not use shutter speed of 1 second

Is this 1.00 sec or can it go to 1.1 or 1.2 sec - ??

It says 1 second...so I would say it means one second only...not 1.2 or 1.whatever..lol!

Imagine the chaos if that was implemented for all future challenges! :-D

That little qualifier of "exactly" should probably answer your question.
03/16/2009 12:28:55 AM · #21
No really. Mine did say 0.77 seconds at a 1 second setting. Weird but I will see if it happens again.

I see a lot of smooth water pictures in this one. Ecchhhh.

Yah... But you know, I have *set* a shutter speed of 1 second and had the EXIF show .997 seconds, or something like that. Threw me for a loop when I saw that... I wonder if there's gonna be a % deviation allowed? Like, anything between 1.025 and .975 is considered "1 second"? I'm not real worried about it, just curious...

Hmm. I think if that's a real technical issue, then we're looking at a real disaster of biblical proportions. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together. MASS HYSTERIA!

Well considering you can't (as far as I am aware) set your camera for .997 seconds...I think you should be okay.
