Here's an idea for the week of April Fool's Day. Submit an image whose sole purpose for existing is to fool the voters into thinking it's a ribbon winner. Pull out all the cliche themes (water drops, owls, bugs, boobs, etc.) and hackneyed techniques (oversharpened, oversaturated, HDR, high contrast, etc.) and let's poke some fun at ourselves. Advanced editing, please.
And I think everyone who participates should get a ribbon of some sort for their profile page.
Thoughts? |

I think you might need to explain this in simple terms. I am a fully qualified Village Idiot and don't understand what you is talking about!
What are clicky themes?? My camera goes clicky and a little imp inside the black box draws a picture for me. What are boobs? I make mistakes at work people tell they are boobs, so I need to take pictures of mistakes at work??
I don't have any hair left, so a ribbon isn't much use to me:) |

Oh. So you mean what I do for every challenge anyway.
Sweet! |

Actually, after having just finished voting on all but three of the "Hidden Gem 1000+" photos, it's hard to think of a subject that wouldn't be a cliché. |

Two years running I've handed out dnmc 1 to all the entries in a free study on April 1 (without actually scoring at all, NB). If you wish to respond to this message, please talk to my lawyer.
Any over-contrasted, oversaturated, oversharpened HDR picture of an owl-like bug with big boobs reflected in a drop of water gets 10 from me on April 1, I promise.
By the way, SteveJ says and probably thinks he's a qualified village idiot, but rumour has it he failed the final interview by turning up (duh).

Of course, any fisheye view of Icelandic landscape would qualify... |

Macro of a flower with "fresh" dew drops and a bee in it - Sounds like a cliché winner to me! |

I kind of like the idea of a cliche challenge, but I agree it's getting hard to find something that is not cliche in some way. Last years DNMC challenge was a lot of fun. |

What I especially like about the prospect of this challenge is that anything original is DNMC. Ha! |

There are only 2 things in Iceland:
1. Landscape (usually with Northern Lights above).
2. Banking crisis.
Photos of a banking system which knowingly stole money from International investors while an inept Government reneged on it's assurance that the money was protected make for quite dull pictures I'd guess. Unless it's a picture of me extracting my money from the former Finance Minister, penny by penny with a pair of pliers. |

Nothing inexplicable about it: there's something in the concept *bridge* that speaks to the human soul, and *reflections* likewise. Combine the two and you're in metaphorical nirvana :-)

Good stuff, everyone. Certainly we have enough fodder for a cliche-inspired challenge for April Fool's Day...
