Does anyone have suggestions for a second battery for my Canon G10? I'm not interested in paying the laughable price for a genuine Canon battery - I'm looking for third party recommendations.
I was going to buy the Impact branded one from B&H, but it's out of stock. And since I have bad relations with the jerks at Adorama, they're not really an option. Is there any other third party brand that's any good?
And incidentally, what's up with the Impact brand at B&H - I tried to search for them directly, but they don't seem to have a web page... Are they B&H's brand?

| I don't have a specific suggestion for the G10 but you do get what you pay for. Branded batteries will last quite a lot longer per charge so it depends how much extra shooting time you need, if you need more than 50-60% more time than the genuine battery then I'd say you will need more than one unbranded battery and would be better off spending the extra on a genuine battery otherwise an unbranded one would be fine. |

Dunno where you got this information but it's wrong.
I have been using SterlingTek batteries in my Canon SLRs for a long time and they outlast and out perform anything Canon ever provided with their cameras... They are less than half the price of the Canon OEM battery and they last a helluva lot longer...

A vote for SterlingTek - thanks!
I've used off-brand batteries in my DLSRs as well - unfortunately, some of them neglect to put their brand name on the battery, so I don't know where I got them from way back when :-)

Another vote for sterling tek. The batteries I got with my 10D and G3 have long since bit the dust. The sterlingtek batteries I got at about the same time I got those cameras are still going strong. When the Canon batteries died I just got a couple more sterling tek ones. |

I have the information from Experience!!! I have been using many different unbranded batteries from many different suppliers including own brand batteries from Jessops over the years for 3 digital p&s cameras and 2 canon dSLR's and every single one has never performed the same as the genuine battery. |

You must have extra rotten luck then :-(
I've bought all sorts of cheap batteries (whatever I happened to come across at the time), and have never had any problems with them. They have always worked just as well (if not better) as the Canon ones.

One of the main places you can see the difference is the mAh rating of the battery. I don't have a G10 but I have a G9. The Canon G9 OEM battery is rated at 720 mAh (milliamp/hour) while the generic battery I purchased to go with it is rated at 1700 mAh. That's well over twice the life of the original OEM battery, and from experience, it does run well over twice as long on a single charge. It also cost me $10.99 instead of the $30+ battery with the Canon name on it. If you aren't getting any extra life out of your generic battery, you might want to check to see if you have a battery with a higher rating or not. I suppose it's possible that there are generic batteries out there with the same mAh rating as the OEM batteries...

| Yeo, they've been the same mAh rating (so they claim) I've also had the same experience with PDA batteries |

| sterlingtek are great.... More juice then the orig and no Canon tax on them so far cheaper. Had mine for just as long as the orig and not an issue.... My P&S also uses them and they have outlasted the Canon name brand one as it's now dead. |

I was sorry to read that you have had bad experiences with Adorama in the past. Is there anything that I can do to help?
