I'm not sure if this would be of benefit to any of our DPC'ers, but I thought I'd pass along this offer of free life insurance from MassMutual.
MassMutual is a pretty well-respected insurance company that has opened up a community service program to offer free life insurance to certain classes of hard-working Americans.
From their website:
"Free Life Insurance - LifeBridgeSM
Our innovative LifeBridgeSM Free Life Insurance Program provides free $50,000 term life insurance policies for eligible parents or guardians. We pay the premiums, and our agents drive the program in their communities. If an insured parent or guardian dies during the 10-year term, the $50,000 benefit funds a trust serviced by our trust company to pay for eligible dependent children's educational expenses."
Essentially, if you qualify for the program (earning more than 10K but less than 40K; aged 19-42 years and in reasonably good health, etc.) you can get a free policy for 10 years -- designed to provide $ for the educational expenses for your kids in the event of your early demise.
They will run this program until they reach 20,000 policies or until December 2009, whichever comes first. I understand that they've already got 9,000 policies given away already.
My understanding is that one of their stated goals is that this is a community benefit; meaning they won't try to spam or scam you into a policy that you have to pay for.
In these uncertain economic times, this could be a real worry-saver. Just passing along in the hopes it might help someone!
