but I'm getting used to it. I had just hoped that this was a little better than the voting so far suggests.
The month is the title too!! |

I'm forever using the title as a shoehorn, but as it says the month should be the title and as that's the way calendars are (you don't usually see reams of text under the picture), I interpret all added text in titles as essentially meaning "You are a moron and I am a fabulously creative artist, so this is to explain all the stuff that you're too much of an idiot to see" and react accordingly.

This crossed my mind as well. so I loked at the previous calendar challenge that had the exact same discription. Some used more than one word titles there too and it didn't seem to affect the voting.
I would hope the same would hold true on this one. Many calendars tell you something about the shot - location or something else that might not be known by the viewer. As long as the month is the main part of the title, I wouldn't consider it a shoe horn. If you are holding the title agaist the entry, I think you're missing the point of the challenge, IMHO. But, as always, you should vote as you see fit. |

This is a photography website.
Are you just looking for a reason to vote others down to bring yours up? As long as the month is in the title stop being such an ass. There's some great photos that have more than just a month, and you're going to vote them down why? A technicality? Is your mind really that slammed shut? It amazes me how unforgiving and uncreative some people who call themselves photographers are. |

Absolutely agree with GIS_boy, aliqui and ThingFish....
This site, as far as I can recall, is DPChallenge and the DP, if I'm not mistaken, is an abbreviation for Digital Photography.....It's not "caption challenge" and as such the primary focus of any voter should be to vote on the merits and the quality of the image and it's relation to the challenge criteria. We all, I'm sure, look at results from past challenges to get an idea of what has been acceptable before - 'Calender I' had the same challenge rules as this current challenge. The captions varied of course but all had the month in the title as required by the challenge rules. Why should the entrants in this challenge think that they should do any different without a specific informed change to the challenge rules. |

Wow... how very narrow minded of you. Good thing you only have one vote to waste.
Actually many calendars have text on the photo itself and the month" is on the date grid. But don't let me confuse you with the facts.

I too absolutely agree with GIS_boy, aliqui, ThingFish and GregoryB....
We should NEVER forget we are all here for the same thing, to enjoy photography. When we start letting semantics get in the way we are forgetting that. |

It says it should be the title, not it has to be the title. |

So why not let the photography speak for itself? Be sure, I'll vote on the photos, not on the title, but I also vote on how far the shot meets the challenge. If it needs an explanation, it meets the challenge less than a shot that carries the feeling connected to the specific month without extra information.
Just my opinion. Now go on picking on me. |
