FYI,
To my knowledge, squirrels and other rodents do not get rabies. Only carnivores like coyotes, skunks, bats, coons, etc. (doggies & kitties) The rodents get bubonic plague, especially here in the dry west. Van |

And plague is transmitted by their fleas, not by the bite of the animal. |

I'm sure the 2x tele is not helping the problem any. I have used 5 Canon "IS" lens and have never noticed this problem. But then again, I hardly ever use it. I'm not surprised the 75-300 has the worst problems since it was Canon's first "IS" lens. The lens I use it the most with is my 500f4 "IS" and I haven't noticed anything, but I'll go back and check... |

Actually they do. There was just an incident within the last few weeks. I posted the links up top. It's not common, though, but it is possible.

John, My husband, Drew and I always carry leather work gloves in the car, because many, many times we've rescued wildlife. Often we move turtles out of the road.
About squirrels, I love them. As you said, they really are cute with their antics. Although I have countless pics of them, I still pursue them with fresh vigor. People who see me must think I've never seen one before...lol
My Mom, who was also a big animal lover, once got bit by one, while hand feeding. It was a long time ago, and I don't know if rabies was a problem then. My Dad got bit by a snapping turtle in the lake too...lol Amazing that both Mom and Dad still loved animals.
A couple of years ago, my friend Renee' beat off a rabid fox that had attacked her 5 or 6 year old girl, in their yard, in upstate New York. It was terrifying! Poor little Rachel had to go for those dreaded needle treatments. She recovered very well though, both physically, and psychologically. Whew!
