signed up...I will actually be travelling during that time, so that will be a great way to fill a book.

Note...fixed your linky...use the url tags, not the img tag.

I did one last year - takes a lot of time, effort, and patience, but is really very satisfying when you get to hold it in your hands!

I'm giving this a go! It should push me to learn my new software, plan my project out and actually start shooting more. (Ok, I'm stressed!!)

Darn, I was all ready to sign up when I noticed that the rules require the photos to be taken within the SoFoBoMo period as well! I have been intending to create photobooks for some of our trips for years, and having recently returned from our second Antarctica trip, was planning to do a book covering both trips together. Ah well!

Do it anyway! Mine weren't taken during the period of time the project took place but it served as lovely motivation to finally put something together. So go for it!

I check it out in more detail when I get home. I have been wanting to put a book together. Maybe this is the push I need.

Yeah, the whole point is to work under the constraint of shooting and compiling the book in one month. Sort of like a DPC challenge on steroids, rather than spending a month picking and choosing your best from over the years. Main idea is that it gets you past all the procrastination that stops you getting started - there's no time. Along the way you'll learn all the skills you need to put together that great second book, that pulls all the images from those previous trips.

Well, that's what I thought but the rules on the site are fairly specific on this point so I don't know whether I'd be castigated if I signed myself up knowing I was going to break a rule they'd spelled out so clearly?

You wouldn't be castigated, but it does kinda defeat the purpose of bothering really. The whole thing is about doing it all in the one month (hence the name)

Taking the photos is a big part of the 'it all' particularly as one of the main barriers people have to doing this normally is deciding which pictures from their years of taking pictures are good enough. Agonizing over which ones to include and exclude. Taking months even getting all the pictures together in one place to look at. Thinking about maybe shooting for just one more month to get some more images to fill gaps.

That was some of the motivation for starting SoFoBoMo in the first place - you shoot the images in the month, so you only have those to pick from. They are as good as they are then in that month. None before, no time for after. Get on with it. Make sense?

So you could just ignore all that and take part, but it seems sort of pointless in that venue - for sure go ahead and make your book with your images, but SoFoBoMo probably isn't the best place to share it, given most everyone else will have gotten into the spirit of the thing.

ETA Paul posted this Q&A today about SoFoBoMo

'Ok, you haven̢۪t actually asked, but let me point out that there̢۪s no threshold of merit for SoFoBoMo. That is, if it has 35 photos and it looks like a book, that̢۪s good enough. They don̢۪t have to be great photos. It doesn̢۪t have to be a great book. It just has to be done in the time window. That̢۪s it.

So you don̢۪t need to stress about quality at all.'

I'm planning on doing a special project in May. Allready have the concept written down and next month gonna look for the right models and pick dates to shoot in May.

A book is a good idea for this project! But I'm gonna have a little head start ;-)

Edit: read the rules on the site, I won't be able to get 35 pics, 25 tops...

I'm in! I have been wanting to put together a coffee table book since I moved here. One thing about Alaska is they seem to be addicted to coffee, and there are drive-up coffee shacks everywhere. Some are quite unique. I plan on taking photos of them and have them put together for this book. Since it seems we are limited to 35 photos, I won't be able to take a photo of all of the shacks (there are close to 50 in the Matanuska Susitna Borough alone), but I can get the most interesting ones.

@ Shutterpug: the site says:

"Of course, you can have more that 35 photos if you like."

So do it! ::D

Sounds like a great idea - and you can certainly have more than 35 photos. 35 was picked as a reasonable stretch for a month - more than one a day (which seems important), but not crazy. Also it is about the least amount you'll find in any real photo book (that we could find in our various collections)

The SoFoBoMo website probably needs to be a bit more clear about what the whole thing is about, but the idea is shoot the 35 pictures (or more) between the start and end dates described at the site. Then compile those photos into a PDF format photographic book, using whatever tools you have available to you, again still within the one 31 day period.

Then you post the PDF to the SoFoBoMo site, or some other hosting site, and link it at the SoFoBoMo site. That's it. That's all that's required. Take the pictures, edit them, post the PDF. All in 31 days between the start and end date.
