Say I want to get a DVR, preferably with a hard drive, to record a PAL signal from a satellite box output. Any recommendations? I know there are "Tivo" thingies in the US, and all the stuff available at my US-based store here is NTSC. I don't know a thing about DVRs or any other form of recording device for Europe. And all this because they're showing the Tour of California on Eurosport but in the middle of the night.... |

Seems like your satellite provider would be the one to get the DVR from? They could at least recommend the right brand/model of receiver you'd need to get. |

Except I don't have a satellite provider - I get the free channels (900+ of which are porn or telemarketing, the other 700 or so are generally duplicates). You buy the box, the satellite, and pay the TV/radio tax. Kind of a different structure.
I suspect I'll follow the cycling the old fashioned way - I'll read the recaps on www.cyclingnews.com. :-) |

We have "Tivo thingies" in the UK as well. I think they are the same but in the options/setup you choose which format to record in PAL or NTSC.
My DVD writer on my PC gives me a choice for the output format whether NTSC or PAL.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Telecom has a new product that works like Tivo. It's a whole reciever I think though. You can get multi system DVR's though. They are hard to find though. Edit: Just looked at your profile. Try calling the PX in K-Town or Mainz-Kastel. They have the biggest Electronics sections.

The PX only carries stuff capable of recording NTSC signals, and they don't have much. I work right next door to the Mainz-Kastel Power Zone. They recommended Media Markt.
