I want to thank you for keeping this thread going. I just spent the last 5 hours on 1x and all I can say is WOW. Sure there are some pictures, but there is also photography as a art form, something not so readily accepted here. I think I found my new place..:)

By the way, discovered a handy thing at 1x the other day. If you're looking at shots in the recently added, for instance, and want to go to the next one, just mouse-click on the picture itself and you'll go to the next one.

What a pain in the (i)

Figured it out it was Google Chrome..

I think it's a Google Chrome thing... I've had the same thing happen on other sites, always with chrome. Annoying!

That's Joe's?! Fabulous! Commented on it having no idea it was a fellow DPCer. Way to go. Happy to see, also, that street shots do occasionally come in color at 1x.

Not in my book. That's most definitely a keeper. Love that shot!

I have had two images published (including the first I submitted which lulled me into a false sense of security!) but since then I have 5 rejected. Here is one of my latest rejections (which I actually quite like!):

Looks like Ursula is no longer the Head Screener. I wonder what that means to the site? Anyone know how long she did that job for?

She also made a joke about allowing in colorful photo's...were things a little more towards the B&W/Mono side before she took over?

I have so many question...lol.

Pawdrix is talking about this thread on the 1x forums:

For those too lazy to logon onto 1x ;)...

All joking aside, I am not going to be Head Screener anymore. Jacob & Ralf have graciously kept me on Crew, but I am taking an extended leave of absence through at least the middle of October of this year. I will not be doing any crew work or have access to crew stuff during this time. No, this is not a disciplinary action for me publishing too many colour photos! And no, no baby, I'm way too old for that. :)

Thank you all for the support while I was Head Screener, and for the friendships with me as just a person. I hope those can continue.

Ursula

I probably should have been a bit more explicit in the original post - I resigned from head-screening duties because of two things: (1) I'm moving to Yellowstone National Park in May (through mid October), and I won't have either much time for the net, or much of an internet connection. And (2) I have some projects to get done before moving to Yellowstone, and I need time for them - being on crew uses up a lot of time, and it is sort of addictive on top, and I need to have time to work on my own stuff for a while.

This may not be that accurate an answer, but if I recall she was first added as a screener about a year ago and then head screener later in the year. (I have been a member there for about 18mths or so).

Pretty accurate. I was on crew for just about exactly a year, and head screener for the last 9 months. I loved it, but it was a LOT OF WORK! A lot more work than being on Site Council here at DPC ever was, a lot more! It got so that I wasn't able to do much of my own stuff anymore, and I felt it would be good for me and for the site to move on. So I did :)

The site will be fine. It's a beautiful site, I loved it there while I was there, as I loved it here at DPC while I was here, and the good thing is now I can hang out wherever I want without being always short on time and a tad angry about the "business" part of things. I might even try my hand at a chanllenge or two. That would be fun! :)

Well I thank you for your time at both places, Ursula, and am extremely envious of your upcoming adventure to Yellowstone. Hopefully you'll find a connection now and again so you can share your pictures and stories with us!

Well if you were to remove her portfolio there would probably be just a dozen color photos left. :P

:P Riiiiight!

Anyway. I'm so glad someone at least noticed my little joke! For a while I was doing a sampling each day of incoming images at 1X, to see how many were colour vs. how many B&W or tinted or what to me is "not colour". It was about half/half over time. Published, there were no statistics, but I think if you were to go through the published images you'd find a good mix of stuff, colour, B&W, and a bunch of in between stuff. Of the 3 top listed photogs at 1x (on the "artists" page), Fernand (#1, and an amazing photographer) works mostly in colour, so do I; Daria (#3) has a more muted palette, but she is not a B&W photographer. The next 2, Codrin and Mal work almost exclusively in B&W, whereas #6, Emily, works in both again (and uses some really bright colour schemes at times). It really is a mix.

I think the DPC perception that 1X is mostly B&W is simply that by comparison there's a lot more really excellent true B&W work at 1X than here. It seems to me that here, at DPC, a lot of the B&W work (not all, mind you, but a lot) is people who normally think in colour transferring their stuff to B&W (and it tends to show), whereas the B&W photographers at 1X are at least sometimes true B&W photographers that have a history of working in B&W, some of them from way back when -- it's the way they think and work, it's their medium. DPC is purely digital, 1X is not. It makes for different stuff. But as mentioned above, the two "top listed photogs" there work and think in colour ;P

So you got frustrated, quit and now you're moving to Yellow Stone? It's all becoming so clear now. :P

You got it!

Best plan I ever came up with I think.

Now, that's irony.

I'm quite new to the site so I'm void of any history or trends. My last two color tries were rejected and I'm trying to muscle in one now, as we speak.

As for the B&W work at 1x, it is stunning.

ETA: Sad you're leaving or just taking a break? Will you still be doing some screening?

I'm not leaving the site, but taking a break. I hadn't being doing much screening lately at all, and I won't be doing any for now until at least mid October. After that, who knows :)

Who's moving to Yellowstone? (ursula) Who's jealous? (jason)

Man. What an opportunity. Enjoy yourself!

Now I know I got a chance to get published. I'm so positive it was an ursula kibosh that has me at 1 for 9! ;)

rejected, re-edited, re-posted, and published

my 3rd published photo

100% approval rating to boot. I'm still not totally satisfied with it. I think I may get in there and darken the tail a bit to bring focus more towards the face. But I'm afraid I may be trying to fix what isn't broken.
