Maybe you're thinking of this version which is the same...

The 1x one is w/out the trip and an easier edit...less voodoo. I took the shot from across the street at ground level then cropped heavily. They were on the 2nd floor so it looks like it's eye level.

I'm assuming that !x doesn't like heavy burning or too much processing unless it's well selected. Again, I'm assuming heavy general whacks with the burn tool will turn them off but I don't know them well enough to say.

Yep, that didn't take long for my next entry to land in The Bin. The site is quite competitive and more so than when I tried a year ago. I doubt any of my photos would be accepted now with the exception of possibly the purple Disney Building.

Apparently, my warbling in the shower does not count as opera...;-/

PS

All peanuts eaten on this site are mescaline-free. Thank you.

An opera fan? Really? I thought I was the only one around here. I've been enjoying Turandot this week...

I'm going to push my luck with 1x this weekend perhaps. Stay tuned!

Does anyone know if they accept triptychs?

No idea. You could ask in a forum there, or just look through some of the accepted photographs to see if you see one.

Steve, I've seen a few so I guess, yes they do :)

Oh good for you! I've never seen Turandot, but La Bohème is my favorite and who can resist the melodrama of Tosca? Many years ago, I had season tickets to the Opera, but now as an old Mom with two young children...the closest I get is Hannah Montana on the Disney Radio channel. I don't know much about opera at all, but love the theater experience. The opera crowd is definitely different!

Good Luck on 1x...I'm working out a deal with Violinist123 to borrow some of his mojo!!! ;-)

Some examples:
Triptych 1
Diptych 1

Just a couple I stumbled upon today. So, I guess not totally out of the question.

I seem to be doing ok, so far. Maybe I'll play it safe for the next 3 tries.

That's because they have now stopped giving the reasons for the rejections.

1x forum - rejections reasons stopping

I was 3 for 3 and just got my first reject...

Which makes me like the site even more.

I studied the portraits section and noticed all the entries were a little somber but the few where people were smiling were Third World, in contrast to their situation by comparison, making them stand out. Actually, a common theme but who's to argue with Third World Joy? Kids happily splashing around in muddy squalor beats depressing any day of the week, right?

Does Dark=Deep? Who knows but of the millions of people who smile and say "Cheese" something about them must really need to stand out to get them published. I love my shot and while technically sound it still didn't have that little extra to push it over the top. I can understand that. Smiles don't have much edge even though I think my subjects projected tremendous warmth. I thought he was a pretty unique looking guy perhaps, in dress alone but not different enough.

I appreciate the Screeners because I think they are very well studied and things need to be original to some degree...or a great degree to get past them.

The canned rejection reasons seemed pretty empty but looking for the meaning of the word "impact" is so simple, yet elusive. A beautiful shot is irrelevant. For the most part the images need to be different in some way, large or small. I'm sure they miss it on occasion or get it wrong but it's ok. That's bound to happen and even adds some mystery to the site.

It says "no such thread".

As you all know, nowadays we either publish or reject images that are uploaded for screening. When we reject, we usually include a "reason" from a list of canned reasons (e.g., "impact", "composition", "editing", and so on).

We have slowly been moving in a slightly different direction. Instead of "rejecting" images and sending a note to the photographer with "reasons" why the image is rejected, we will simply publish images or not publish them.

For images that are published, a note will continue to go out notifying the photographer of the publish, and the photo will appear on the front page.

For images that are not published, a note will go out to the photographer notifying them that the image is not published at this time. Some specific reasons may be included at the discretion of the crew person in charge of the image. We will keep a few canned reasons for not publishing (copyright text, border, and size), but the other "reasons" will not be used anymore when notifying the photographer that the image is not being published.

We will continue to encourage photographers who wish to improve their photography to use the Critique section to get more feedback on their images, both before and after screening. We will also monitor the Critique section so that it is a place for productive discussions on making good images, but not a place to just gripe about things such as, "my image (1 of 20 other similar images) wasn't published, how could the crew be so heartless!?!?!" In other words, Critique is for serious discussion about images, both before sending them in to screening and for images not published.

Just a note: I would appreciate your thoughts and possible concerns on this change in how we do things at OnExposure/1X, but the decisions about how we screen images and which images we publish or don't publish are not up for discussion in this thread.

Thank you,

Petra & Ursula/Head Screeners

Hmm so it does and yet it is there (but locked)- I think you have to be logged in to see it.

ETA. Pawdrix just added the text.

One thing negative that DPC has done to me is to make me a bit gun shy when it comes to going out on a creative ledge. Too many voices in my head telling me what NOT to do. Not that I lack confidence but not having an open audience (with some exceptions) to a lot of my work, does make me hesitate before showing...

Anyway...I was thinking of these two for my next open slots.

Impact? It's hard to say.

Impact? What's impact? Now if you want to talk the D word...

The second one has more impact, in my opinion. It seems right up their alley. The first is good too, but may be a tougher sell. It's more subtle. Just my half cent...

I entered 4 images last Thursday night. All 4 made it to member screening

Rejected after 24 hours - about 20% on the popularity meter

Rejected after 48 hours - about 30% on the popularity meter

Rejected after 72 hours - about 50% on the popularity meter

Published - almost 4 days in screening - about 70% on the popularity meter
