Maybe there also needs to be this option, too?

Same here. When that poll was taken I wondered how it would've went if the choices were only "comment helpful" and "comment appreciated". |

May's well include another category where the commenter can belittle or praise the shooters response to the comment, no?

Sounds good but if the commenter is going to belittle the shooter, how dose the shooter get even? Or, should the shooter be able to get even, and, if not why not? |

While I was kidding about my suggestion above, something similar to it actually sounds like a good idea to me. For example...
1) Eliminate the check boxes
2) Give each comment a 5 star rating system 
3) Allow any member to rate any comment even on other people's photos. I suggest this because I have often found comments helpful that were left on other photographer's shots. It would be nice to reward these people's great comments for each photographer that finds it useful, interesting, or whatever (or even reinforce how incredibly stupid photographers might consider a comment to be for that matter).
4) Keep ratings anonymous (like votes) to encourage ratings unbiased by the fear of offending someone. In other words, there should be no report to the commenter about if or how the photographer rated a comment.
5) Include average ratings received for comments in user profiles (aggregate, not for individual comments), and make it a graphic rather than a score.
i.e. Avg. Comment Rating: 
6) Link the Avg. Comment Rating graphic to a breakdown of the numbers:
and comments can be seen below similar to how they currently are (but without stars or check boxes for individual comments).
7) Perhaps we could include an average ratings given for comments in user profiles to discourage people from just giving out 1 star to everyone. (I'm actually not sure if I like this last idea)
I know nothing will probably come of any of it, but this is the way I would consider changing things.

also eta: I wouldn't penalize a person's rating if none is given for a comment. That way people can write "Congratulations" & "Nice Photo" comments without worrying that it will automatically get a low rating.
