My camera died (again!). I assume the shutter is gone, same thing that happened in June 2007. Back then it was covered under warranty. I don't know what I am going to do. I bought a Rebel XSI this past summer but hated it and sent it back (my Sigma lens did not work on it, images were never in focus). Crap, crap, crap!!!!!

And on top of that I have been sick with a cold/sinus infection for almost a week, I haven't been able to get out and take any photos, I'm supposed to give a slide show presentation of my nature photos to the local Wildflower Association on Wednesday evening but I may have to cancel that if I don't feel better really quickly.

I need pity. :(

Look at it this way: here is the perfect opportunity to step up to a 40D. Too bad about the XSi, I like mine.

Where's a nice emote for some hot tea or coco to serve when you need it!

Sorry to hear that you are feeling bad Karen. I know personally how miserable that cold/sinus infection stuff can be....I STILL have some residual from the one that I had for a few weeks (yes, weeks for I had it bad - prescription strength Mucinex, 850 mg of antiboitics, and Fluonese nasal spray to take not to mention 600 mg of Advil every few hours for a sprained/pinched muscle in the shoulder) Go see a doctor if it persists past a few days or if it feels like something is rippling in your head Karen!

Wish the camera had not gone kaput on you:-(

Get better and I hope something works out on the camera front!

Im so sorry for you. It absolutely sucks that your camera dies....I certainly dont think it is fair that you have to deal with that....and then to get sick well thats even worse. Pity pity pity pity. There is some pity for you and I hope like heck you get better soon, and your camera situation gets better.

I'll send Danny Williams to scream at your camera. He may knock some sense into it.

Good luck and feel better soon.

Hope you feel better soon, Karen!

Not sure why the XSi had problems, but maybe it was just the unit you had. However, I agree about using this as a reason to upgrade. A 40D is a bit bigger and heavier, but the cost is way down from when it came out and you'll notice a huge difference in quality.

I could lend you my XTI if you would like?

Awww, thanks guys I'm feeling better already. Nothing like a good pity party!

Beagleboy now why didn't I think of that? Danny can fix anything! LOL

Ken, I actually had 2 XSI's, after I got the first one and it was crap I sent it back and had another one come. Same problem, 90% of the photos I took using my Sigma lens were not in focus. Read up on it at DPReview and apparently Sigma lenses are known for that, only working well with the camera that was on the market when they were built? Or something like that.

I'm going to see how much it will cost to repair it.

Karen, dear, I really think you should treat yourself to a new camera. I would suggest the 30D. Sure the 40D has more bells and whistles and stuff, but I'm guessing with the 40D and 50D out there, the 30D is probably dirt cheap! Or a lot cheaper than it was when I got it. I think you'd love it! And you do deserve a new camera.

Sorry to hear about the sinus infection - hope you get over it soon!

Actually, the 30D body is $637 on Amazon.com and the 40D body is $899. If you shop around you can probably find an even better deal.

Ack. I would be lost without my camera, I'm sure.

One thing that strikes me though, is that I feel that getting rid of the XSi because of a faulty Sigma lens is kind of like cutting off your foot because you lost a toenail.

You must be pretty attached to that Sigma!

Well, she's done pretty well with that lens, from the looks of it. I'd probably think twice about getting something I couldn't use my fave lens with too, if it won me ribbons!

Karen, sorry to hear you and cam are under the weather :( Hope things turn around SOON.

I dont think nows a good time to go for the 40d. It jumped from $786 - $899 on amazon. I missed out and now i have to wait for it to drop again. Wonder when that'll be.

Get better soon Karen.

Not good! Two advices: get well and ignore the 20D (the LCD screen is just too small).

Karen,

My heart goes out to you.

My 300D died suddenly two years ago and I was stunned. I honestly felt like my left arm had stopped working. Gutted I was!

I don't think I realised just HOW much I rely on my camera to 'breathe' every day - GRIN!

I was lucky and our house insurance covered it and I moved up to the 30D - the BEST decision I could have made.

I HIGHLY recommend you find it in your heart to treat yourself to the next level of Canon.

You are such an amazing photographer and you DESERVE the equipment that honors you as an artist.

Thinking of you and sending you sympathy.
