You sir, are bold. That would be great! That has my vote. |

Two great ideas.
I wish I could edit my idea to further expliain my suggestion. I thought by having a(nother) "My corner of the world challenge", we could show how DPC has grown to cover many places on the planet... |
i agree, two great ideas... |

I think a "Best of 2002-Present" might be too much like the "Best of 2008" since I assume we all have gotten better over the years, not worse! |

I dunno, I have a picture I took before I joined the site that I am extremely proud of, I would love to enter into some kind of challenge, but have never been able to.
...
Wait, on second thought, given how highly I think of it, it will most likely score 4.8, haha. |

Why would you want to make this a member challenge? You're going to exclude anyone who hasn't paid to be a member??? |

I think SDW, nailed it. A photo should speak a thousand words, what better way to celebrate thousands of entries in a thousand challenges by thousands of people.

I think Bear's idea really good - and there is no reason it couldn't be extended to registered users. That said, it would be a good incentive for people to become paid up members.... |

That could present an interesting twist between those brilliant photos captured with older technology and those captured with the latest gadgets. |

I like sfalice's concept of repeating the very first challenge -- the only problem is "road signs" are so uninteresting. So I'd go for the "shoot 1,000 or more" of something. |

Well, that might be true in many, even most, cases, but speaking for myself I don't think my "shooting" skills have changed much over the years, just my post-processing skills as I entered the learning curve that is digital photography. I didn't get a digital camera until, I think, 2002. And I can go back to those images and PP them anew and make them a whole lot better. Still, I'm a relative anomaly in that I was a working professional and I taught photography at the college level too.
There's another category though: people who may have been shooting excellent work but didn't find DPC until recently...
And the third category is what we could call the "even a blind pig can find an acorn now and then" category: we may be, in the aggregate, better now than we were then, but that doesn't mean we don't all have "happy accidents" that occurred before we really knew what we were doing :-) That's how I got into serious photography, actually: a few happy snapshot accidents and I was sucked in; before, I was a painter... But that was long ago, in the film days.

It's the paid members that made it possible for this site to grow and prosper as it has. I guarantee you we wouldn't have a DPC if D&L had to pony up out of pocket to keep it going; or at least not a DPC-as-we-know-it. I'm also not particularly interested (in the context of my best-since-2002 idea) in seeing hundreds of new members sign up to enter their favorite photograph of the last 9 years :-)

I like the idea... Any chance we could scan from a four letter word starting with f?? :-) I mean it's digital right out of the scanner :-)

I can relate to this! I also see your point about seeing a large number of people signing up as 'registered users' just to enter. Hmm, on the one hand I would like to see all DPC members able to enter, on the other I would like those who haven't paid for their membership join those of us who have.... |

The idea of repeating the first challenge has grown on me. Yes, road signs are generally boring, but I believe many DPCers could find a way to make it interesting. Also, it could be a great demonstration what DPC is all about by showing how much this community has improved its photography through 1,000 challenges. |

There have actually been 4 Road Signs challenges, so I think this concept would be a little watered down.
I like the idea, but for me, it would have only worked had the original challenge been the ONLY challenge featuring that subject. |

And I think the 1000th challenge needs to be something really special. A rehash of 0001 isn't gonna cut it, IMO.

Really?? I'm actually disappointed in your response Robert. What about people that used to be paying members that may be in an unfortunate situation and can't afford to be members anymore? I've been around for 4 years almost most of which was as a paid member.

Well, I'm not a hard-ass about it. Someone asked, "Why for paid members?" and I happened to respond with a reasonable rationale. You do make a valid point, though.

DPChallenge is getting close to announcing its 1000th Challenge. Anyone wishing to post their suggestion please do so. Who knows langdon may look at the list and choose your suggestion. Wouldn't it be neat if your challenge suggestion was chosen as the 1000th challenge?
Tell us what theme you would like the 1000th challenge to consist of by posting here.
View results here. Updated every 5 minutes.
Note: I am in no way suggesting langdon and/or the Site Council will choose from the list of suggestions. But who knows...
