A few months back someone threw out this thing (won't mention it's name cause it will give away my idea) that I've always wanted to try and photograph but just didn't have the chance or challenge. Well of course over the Christmas holiday I finally had to get it out of my car so I threw it away....and now we get these challenges! AUGH. Now to try and do it another way...(eta...oh AND I have to try and execute it with a sensor going bad...damn red line!)
Bear...be careful on your travels, sorry they have to be for that reason.

'Fools' said I, 'You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.'
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence
There's even a waterdrop opportunity. Go figure!
Now, I know what I'm shooting...

"SILENCE!" the King of the Turtles barked back.
"I'm king, and you're only a turtle named Mack."

I have an idea, but I'm not sure how to make what's in my head appear on my screen...
Sigh...

I know how you feel :(
Nobody wants to go shooting with me, either, which is a shame. I tried to be my own model, but ended up with a very very blurry picture and ten VERY frozen fingers.

They look up.
Without realizing they're standing in the palm of your hand.
I can't explain or understand.
I just love you.
It's common knowledge that; you've been dead for a while.
It's well known that the cross is only a burden with pains and trials.
But thinking how come my shoes are so light, how come I can walk for miles?
And still, just love you?
So I think I'll stay, caught up in silent prayer, cause I believe in silence.
Our hearts speak the same words.
So why don't we just walk along the shoreline with our silent song?
Cause I believe in silence.
Our hearts speak the same words, the same words.
We have to prove that our love is real, over and over again.
But let them think what they want cause I know It'll never end.
Cause I know when it began.
And my heart still pumps twice as fast whenever you walk by.
Cause I still love you.
So I think I'll stay, caught up in silent prayer, cause I believe in silence.
Our hearts speak the same words.
So why don't we just walk along the shoreline with our silent song?
Cause I believe in silence.
Our hearts speak the same words, the same words.

Ooohh.. I did that Friday night.. trying to capture a great sunset behind the silhouette of a farm.. really cliche shot, but pretty. Too cold and windy, couldn't get tripod still before I lost patience and feeling in my fingers. |

So, I had this idea. I've started visiting stock photography sites & looking at the results for a keyword searches on Silence & Sound. That gave me some clues as to what the voters would be looking for in this challenge. I'm certain now that my entry will be lucky to score higher than a 3. |

At least it's not negative bajillion degrees anymore...was -30º here for a while. It was I think 8º when I was trying to take a picture...still FREEZING cold. |

There is the sudden silence of the crowd
above a motionless player on the field,
and the silence of the orchid.
The silence of the falling vase
before it strikes the floor,
the silence of the belt when it is not striking the child.
The stillness of the cup and the water in it,
the silence of the moon
and the quiet of the day far from the roar of the sun.
The silence when I hold you to my chest,
the silence of the window above us,
and the silence when you rise and turn away.
And there is the silence of this morning
which I have broken with my pen,
a silence that had piled up all night
like snow falling in the darkness of the house-
the silence before I wrote a word
and the poorer silence now.

Im in for Silence. Ive been trying to get the shot since Thursday. Today I went after we were hit with 6" of snow last night and before the ice storm hits tonight. hahahah. I got it and its in but if we lose power my scores wont be getting posted. It will probably score a 5 after all of that work but it was fun anyway. :=) |

Well, I'm "in" with an entry. It was absolutely silent when I captured the image. But, I doubt whether others will relate to the photographer's experience. It's okay! Nothing "genius" fell into my lap this week. I'll accept the below average votes without adverse reaction. |

I'm in. Hah! Not sure about the editing. What do you guys think, is it better to have burnt-out spots and more drama or more detail and less drama...? I'm conflicted :( |

Jessi -- I, personally, like more drama, but I also rarely break 5.5, so take my "advice" with a grain of salt.
I'm in silence. I shot it early last week, LOVED it, and as I've looked at it over the week, the less I like it!
Oh well. |

I think I found a happy medium. I'm studying for an exam right now (or rather, pretending to...) and my study buddies liked the edited drama-y version better than the original one. Hopefully the voters approve!!
I've decided that entering challenges builds personal resilience. You get a bad score, you go around feeling depressed for a day, you get over it, you bounce back and it's all good!
On the other hand, it might mean we're all completely masochistic...heh.

Oh no. Getting a bad score chips away at the soul, slowly reducing your self esteem until you wonder whether you can actually hold a camera, let lone compose a picture. Low scores take us back to a subconscious moment of utter rejection when the one thing we REALLY wanted was unattainable.
Comments, on the other hand, give us a sense of salvation by guiding us away from rejection towards the acceptance we all seek. It's like you best friend telling you you have a body odour problem; all of a sudden the rejection is explained and the road to recovery begins....... |

What is this "friend" you speak of? Does that require actual human interaction away from the monitor?
( :P ) |
