Is it just me or does it seem incredibly hard to get favorites. I actually go nuts if I get a favorite since I only have received 17 for the past 2+ years. I wonder if people who have 1000 favorites feel as humbled when they receive one.

I'm saying this as I received a nice comment from a member who thanked me for favoriting his image.

Your profile says that you live on the Moon. It takes a while for fav's to get up there. : )
My portfolio shows 108 K views, and 22 fav's, so it is just a hit or miss thing, unless you post a truly "WOW" photo. I also feel like I have made someone somewhere happy when they fav one of my shots.

:p hey people should favorite me because I live on the moon. I'm just that special. I have no idea how you have 108k views, I have 14k view and it looks like we joined DPC around the same time period.

I don't really think it has anything to do with "WOW" photos at all... I think people favorite photographers with whom they have established friendships with over the site. But I do agree with you on the hit or miss thing. If people don't know about you, it seems almost impossible for them to stumble upon your portfolio or other nice shots you've done.

I think it helps if you're a "celebrity" personality as well.

Someone like Slippy, or Art Roflmao, or Judi, or any dozen others. If you can be a 'celebrity' personality and also have DPC friendly talent? Well!

Or, you could go my route and cheese everyone off and not let them forget that you're a part of the site no matter how hard they try...

100% agree. I've also noticed that my top 4 photographs have not received one favorite (except one). Most of my favorites are in fact for photographs that did not score well at all.

Well, to tell the truth, those are the three names from recent threads that I could come up with off the top of my head.

There's an element of truth in that; you can get selected as a "favorite photographer" by a lot of people if you contribute regularly and constructively In the forums (that was my route) or if you contribute regularly and outrageously (like Slippy and Art). Wait, that doesn't sound right... I just mean that for some of us favoriting is because we do a lot of grunt work, for others it's because they keep us highly amused. There, that sounds better. And of course if you win a lot of ribbons you get a lot of faves, goes with the territory. My most-favorited images are all the ones that placed the highest, basically. That's where the exposure come from.

I've been letting various different posts lead me to previously-unexplored portfolios, and I've found a lot of wotk I really like there, and I've faved a fair amount of it. For sure, the site is full of unacknowledged gems :-)

No, THEY are famous (notorious?) for their antics, whereas YOU are famous for your hair... And other charms :-)

If those are shady characters what does that make me? Be lucky he didn't group you with me. :P
