I edit my photo in Photoshop 2 - Change the image size by making the largest number in the pixels 640 - hitting save and having compression set high (9) - The photo looks good on my computer but I always get comments about grain on the photo. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks! |

You need to read this tutorial... It explains everything you're enquiring about (i.e. you should be using 'Save for Web' rather than 'Save As...')

I looked at the last few of your challenge entries and didn't see graininess in any of them. Nor could I find comments about it. Could you link to an example? |

Thanks for the answers. The current challenge just got a "grainy" comment, but so did my smoke entry. I can't figure how to post a thumbnail. If you don't mind going back to my page its Dunes of Smoke. Actually what was being seen as grain was actually a velvet blanket background which I've stopped using. Let me know what you think.
Thanks. |

This is the image you referred to: and I can see where the "grainy" comments come from. However I don't think it has anything to do with resizing the image. Perhaps the image was underexposed to begin with and you boosted the exposure, or maybe you pushed certain colours or contrast too much? I can't tell without seeing the original.
It's certainly not a common thing in your workflow - none of your other images that I checked have the same issue.
Does the image look OK on your screen, do you not see the reason for the graininess comments? If so, try looking at it on a different computer, perhaps your screen is off. |
