I was on a shoot and I swapped out to the new 50 f/1.4 and set the 28-70 on the couch. Well I bumped into the couch, the lens tipped, rolled off the couch and hit the ground. It was only a about a 1.5 foot drop, but it was enough to jack up the zoom ring. Good news is AF, and glass are all fine, but the zoom ring is now real stiff and more difficult operate. I'll be shipping it out to Nikon either tomorrow or Monday for repair. I bought it used so it's not still under warranty. Hopefully the repair bill wont be outrageous.

The real kicker is that I go on vacation in a week and am planning on doing alot of shooting. The 28-70 is my most used lens. Now I'm likely be without it for my whole vacation. I'm pretty bummed. :-(

That is a bummer...
You should look into renting one for your vacation. It probably won't set you back too much, and if you don't... you'll be wishing you had yours the entire time.

Sounds like a good opportunity to challenge yourself by using "unconventional" lenses (where you would normally rely on the 28-70). You might really come up with some creative work this way.
