In the past couple of months I've been visiting "The Mindful Eye" frequently, in particular to learn from the "daily critique" videos. My understanding of the vocabulary of art, elements of composition, and range of what might be done in post processing has expanded considerably. While I amy not agree with every point in every session, I learn something important every visit.

They are seeking new visitors. To take advantage of the critique videos, you need to register, but registration is free. Thought some of you might like to take a look for yourselves.

Thanks for the link, Bob.

Fyi, I've just recently discovered a wealth of "how to" videos on youtube, of varying quality and length. I haven't had the time to fully watch more than a few, but they're there!

I joined there not too long ago, and was one of the images selected for a daily critique. Unlike any other site, where someone posts in a thread or in the image comments a very brief comment about the image - Craig starts out with a video tutorial - first telling you all the positives in your image. His comments are very detailed. Then if you have asked for specific regarding composition, technicals, pp, etc he will go into that and show you how he achieved what you were looking for in video tutorial form of Photoshop. I learned more in that video critique than I had in my several years here. I love DPC for the friends, forums, and challenges, so don't get me wrong I do not find The Mindful Eye to be a replacement site. I do however recommend it as a great learning tool.

I've added it to my bookmarks as well - thanks for the head's up on this one, Bob - much appreciated!

Just went back and found your image. I was amazed how much he helped me get from the original, not to mention all the possibilities he found for possible processing changes. Glad you submitted.

Unfortunately, it's useless for me, as it relies on videos with voice-overs... :-( More and more stuff on the net is becoming like that btw, it's distressing. It used to be the net was the perfect place for deaf people NOT to feel "handicapped", but that's changing rapidly.

Well, we don't want you running off anyway Bear.
So stay right here, take yer shoes off, sit a spell.
You wouldn't want to hear my NC islander brogue anyway. Don't get distressed. At least as long as slippy doesn't take his shoes off in here.

Most of the text to speech conversion software remains limited, although advances have been happening every year. I am sure you keep track of web sites that keep more up to date on technical advances for those with hearing difficulties, but I hope you don't find me presumptuous for using your post as a prompt me to look around on that topic. Found this link about YouTube having effective speech to text functionality as of last summer, at least for some of their offerings. Hope other sites can add that too.

Meanwhile, I do know that The Mindful Eye has a community forum (text) area and postings of member contributions (images), even though the videos may have limited value without access to the sound.

Best wishes.

He used to be on Radiantvista.com and then they closed the site. I really loved it when it was a short, daily critique but then they got longer and there were fewer. I haven't checked out Craig's new critiques but the site looks very promising.

You are right about Craig being on Radiantvista earlier. I learned about that site right as they were closing. The ending page had links to three tentative follow-up sites. One eventually led to The Mindful Eye. One led to a page indicating a change of plans about making another web site. I think the third ended up being something I was not interested in. Sorry to have missed out on most of Radiantvista. Sounds like it was good. I'm posting this partly to bump the thread up for the non-weekend crowd. Might be interesting to hear some comments from others who check out the features.
