Are you allowed to use a pic you submitted to a challenge earlier in the year for this?
01/09/2009 03:41:48 AM · #27
3 hrs 40 mins into submission and we already have 20 entries - not that we were waiting like a bull at the gate or anything ;-)

What?!? All of the sudden someone somewhere in the admin of this site is paying attention??? If that actually happens, we might even get a more realistic size and resolution allowance for the challenges. Be careful not to spark silly conspiracy theories.

One less cup of coffee a week and you can be a paid member! [/quote]

I don't drink coffee :)

Im 25th, well at least in entering... more like 425th in the results :)

IF you have an image in your portfolio, I would highly recommend moving it to your workshop so that it is no longer visible. Also, if it is a shot that had a high number of views or comments, you could possibly suffer from the backlash that inevitably rises when a picture is no longer anonymous.

This may be a dumb question, but can you submit something for this challenge that you did not submit as part of another challenge?

Your entry must be an image not previously entered in a challenge.

From the Advanced Editing rules:

You may not:.....

use the same original image in more than one challenge.....

yeah but the rules also state...

The shot must be

taken after the challenge is announced and before the deadline, based on the Current Server Time (US Eastern Standard/Daylight Time) displayed at the bottom of every page on this site

And I don't think anyones shot will fit that category.

Yes, I'd like this confirmed, too. I thought the "Best of" challenges permitted one to enter an image they had used previously in the given year.

I've never seen this although I've certainly seen shots entered from the same photo shoot as previous winners (often looking very similar) which I think is sorta lame.

In the past, no exception has ever been made to the "You may not: use the same original image in more than one challenge" rule. The Best of is your best shot that has not been entered in any previous challenge.

I would think as well that the "taken after the challenge is announced" part should be explicitly overridden in the Extra Rules section. Sure, past precedent says post a shot taken any time in 2008, but technically we are all breaking a rule and should be DQed if we do. Not that that will happen, I just like to have things neat and tidy.

Thanks for your answer; I don't know where I got that impression. I had considered re-processing a challenge entry, but I'll have to abandon that idea.

The picture has to be taken during the year 2008.

It CANNOT have been used in a challenge previously.

If it is in a portfolio for a side challenge, etc., it is strongly recommended that you move it to your workshop where it cannot be seen.

Or you can just check the box and choose "Hide", can you not?

I just want to officially announce my 2008 entry was rejected by 1x. :) (No, I'm not bitter...)

probably. i've rarely needed to hide anything, so i just put it in the workshop.

but yea, just make sure the general perusing public cannot see it.

:)

Man - that is a tough site. Did you have color and an upbeat tone to the shot? You can have one - but not the other. Only my frog shots make it over there - which is surprising since they are quite colorful.

Yes, I have quite noticed that 1x is 80% B&W and subdued tones. That doesn't fit my style too well. Bastards!

Well, I'm about to enter arguably the best landscape I have shot in the years I have been here. Let's see what the voters think :-)

And what the heck is a "1x"?

Oh yeah, them :-) I actually sent Ursula a message asking if I'd fit in there, haven't gotten a response...
