This is very sad. Dangerous....but don't all photographers take a risk every now and again.

Aussie Photographer Dies in New Zealand - Glacier Fall

That is sad, glaciers are very dangerous and its one of the few places where I wont stray out of bounds. There are just way too many ways to easily get hurt or killed on them...

I don't think they were 'photographers' per se. They were tourists and like many tourists, happened to have a camera with them and also like many tourists they did something very stupid and payed the ultimate price.

They climbed over a barrier & ignored Danger signs to take photographs.

Good luck with the lawsuit if there were barriers in place and on top of that Im sure there were signs on the barriers... comes down to the fault of the victims...

In addition to thinking "what a terrible tragedy" - is anyone else secretly wondering if they recovered the cameras?

In New Zealand, we don't really do the lawsuit thing. That seems to be more of an American pastime. Like I said, they climbed over a barrier & ignored Danger signs to take photographs. They also went into an area that professional guides wouldn't go in to. It will be down to insurance companies if their family wants any form of compensation. Assuming of course the victims took out travel insurance. I'm sure the insurance company will try to get out of any payment as technically their actions were illegal. They were tresspassing.

Ohhhh how terribly sad. My heart aches for those boys' parents. If one in three people cross over those barriers, I guess people minimize how dangerous it is. I hope they won't any more.

P.S. I do wish America wasn't so sue-happy too.
