hopefully people don't get upset, but I'm at a school where I can't get internet on campus... and I just thought it would be fun to post the before and after of this one. HAHAHAHAHA to those of you who thought that was actually sunrays. (in a good natured way) All I had was crappy photos from the month of Dec. so I threw this one through photoshop in 10 minutes in order to improve my score... and I think did score better than the original would have

I dunno, it's not like he invented the sunlight. There is sunlight streaming in.

Yea but in the original the sun is not coming in from the roof unless there is something BIG and shiny outside the windows to reflect the light UP in to the inside of the roof...

If this were my shot I would expect it to be DQ'd for adding an element

Ya, it's the defined "shapes" of the streams of light that is a no-no. I've seen exactly this get DQ'd before.

Wow, that got DQ'd under the current advanced editing rules? So much for advanced editing.

Nope...it was the prior Advanced editing ruleset - Advanced Editing V

Here's a list of the ruleset datelines: Challenge Rules

Sigh....aside from this being a strong candidate for posible DQ this type of 'visual illusion' just makes it one tick harder for some (I say some not ALL) of voting public to resist voting an image down even if the 'illusion' is accomplished in a valid manner.

Why are there editing rules?? Why can't the image be produced any way you want?? what's the big deal?? Isn't the whole point of photography to produce an image regardless of how it is achieved?? Maybe I'm just dense but what possible difference would it make to allow cloning out stuff in basic editing. What would be the harm in using multiple exposures if you so desired?? If you wanted to lighten just a portion of the image why not?? What is the point of the editing rules?? Maybe I AM dense but it seems to be constrictive for no reason. Let's face it advanced editing is part of digital photography and while I am not great at it maybe I should or need to be.

I think it is because some people feel that adding a new element borders on digital art....adding something that wasn't there before...therefore no longer a photograph!

Well, i like the original, despite not being interesting for the challenge...I'm just learning the editing rules and the advantages of it, but i really think this kind of thing fooled people like me, that's why i'm a fan of the good photographers here who wish a challenge with no edition tools at all. No offense Justin, i understand what is really want to be in a challenge, but in my opinion you could have a good shot with less edition! Just a thought.

Strange, his profile comes up when you click on his name. I was wondering about the drop of the membership though, was thinking it was a bit of a coincidence that his blue would expire right after a Free Study he got DQd in. heh.

*EDIT* or does it have to do with the fact that he's now a registered user and his portfolio is gone?

You may well be right there my good man, I would have liked to have seen the orig though :(

It's just a coincidence. His membership just happened to expire (and his portfolio with it), and he wasn't going to have time to submit for a while.
