Truly just hypothetical at the moment, but would it be legal to submit an image from a trail camera to a challenge?
I got one for christmas! You set it up somewhere and it's motion triggered. I could forseeably get some decent wildlife photos from it (or catch who's dog is pooping in my yard!).
Per the rules I'd think yes? |

If it's a digital camera, has EXIF data, and the image was taken within the dates, I can't see a problem.
Unless there's some weird thing about the operator having to actually be there at the shutter click. |

The rules do say
"Someone else may press the shutter button if you set up the shot and the camera settings"
So If you set up the camera and location etc etc, and a racoon triggers the shot - I guess that works ? |

Regardless of the challenges, it would be interesting to see what results you get. I will look forward to that.
As Jedusi stated, in challenge rules, anything can trigger the shutter button.
And as K10DGuy states Exif, Dates and digital, so no problems I can see.
Go for it and have fun with it:) |

So basically this is as if I set up, say, my camera at a bird feeder in my backyard with a motion sensor that birds would trigger to take shots? And, just hypothetically speaking, how is that any different from those who set up, for example, noise or motion triggers to do stop action shots of bullets and breaking wineglasses and the like?
And the answer is, "no difference at all" just because you happen to be miles away from the camera when the images are captured...
So go for it; we can't wait to see what ya get! What would be really cool is if you could set it up with remote satellite upload too, and then plonk it down in some gawdforsaken wilderness and record images all year, uploading daily for challenges!

Thanks for the opinions. That's what I figured but wanted to run it by the masses.
It takes stills or video and has an IR light so it will take grainy B&W shots in complete darkness. We'll see if I get anything interesting. We have deer and racoons in our neighborhood and claimed bear and couger sightings. If nothing else i can see what my dogs do all day when i'm not home! |
