Larry the Barber has been cutting my hair for about three years now and I have to say he is one of my favorite people in the entire world. There is just something about the guy that I really like... can't really explain what it is, but he is just a really genuine person. Anyway...

I took this picture:

for the first challenge in 2007 and it didn't do all that great, but I cannot tell you how much this picture has meant to his family. I took this picture two years and two days ago and he still talks about it. As a matter of fact, he told me today that his wife actually gave framed copies of it to his three children this year for Christmas. I cannot begin to tell you how much joy I got from hearing that. It was worth 100 times more than anyone could have paid me to take the same shot. I discovered that I don't take pictures to make money, I take pictures to preserve memories.

Thansk for listening/reading.

Cool. That's the best reward. But at 5.74 and an upper third placement, I'd say it did fairly well in the challenge.

Great environmental portrait, and I totally agree - preserving memories is what it's all about.

what a great story ... it's always a good feeling to know someone else was very touched by your image ...

I usually count anything below a 6 as "not doing all that well".

Thanks for taking the time to respond everyone.

Yes... I think she was telling a story about her neice who knew a guy who knew a woman who had a dog that bit a man who once knew a guy that ran over a dog that was owned by a guy who married the sister of a girl who had a boss that owned a store that JFK used to walk by when he was a kid... or something like that.

I'm often surprised by the photos that people I shoot just love; but in your case, it's no surprise. You captured the essence of the subject and it's not a shocker that it's treasured by the family. Congratulations, Toddhead, you used your talent to touch someone's life. Kudos!

Yes! I think I remember hearing that story once. She does add some character to your shot! seriously, just ask her if you can take a picture of her. Stop pretending to take shots of others and using mirrors to get shots of her. It's a little pathetic.

All - Thanks for all the kind words.

sempermarine... why should I take my own pictures of her when I can just get a copy of your shots? I know you guys have done a few "photoshoots".
