Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II

Since my 50D eats megabytes like I eat Jalapeno Poppers, my 2GB cards are not cutting it any more. I am thinking a couple 8GB or 16GB cards would be fine. Anyone have any recommendations on brand and source based on price, reliability, speed?

Shannon converted me to Transcend cards; we get them from NewEgg. Never had a bit of trouble, a bit less expensive than the traditional Sandisk or Lexar cards.

I like Transcend too. I get my Transcend at Newegg also. There were some 4gb Sandisk Extreme III's on sale @ $0 after rebate this morning at Abes of Maine but seems to be sold out. There was a good discount on the 8gb ones also, but they are also sold out.

I don't like Lexar because I've had problems with 2 different cards.

I have 4 of the 16GB Kingston. No problems yet.

$35 each at Fry's

The only card I ever had to recover files after a shoot was an 8GB Sandisk Extreme III

Ive had good luck with my 8 gig transcend and ridata cards that I used in my 30D but they dont have xfer speeds that allow the 50D to really click so they have been demoted to backup cards. I use a lexa pro UDMA 8 gig with my 50D and while not a cheap card (this it was $80 after rebate) it moves a lot of data very fast.

I have a Lexar card that is a number of years old and never given me any issues and Sandisk Extreme IV which has been excellent.

Is the 50D UDMA enabled ? if so it might be worht looking for a card with that feature as well.

Yes it is and using it with a UDMA card makes a big difference in xfer speeds.

Ditto, LexarPro at that. I like SanDisk Ducati Extreme cards. I find them faster than UDMAs and very reliable at -20Âº C.

Adorama had 8GB Sandisk IV UDMA cards for 80 plus a $40 mail in rebate, but I think they are on backorder now, if you aren't in a hurry.
