I hear about too many people getting fired everywhere...
And companies not having paid salaries for the last two months...

It is insane.

I can not sit there eating good food and being busy with expensive gifts with sooo much bad news around.

Fortunately I am in a good position at the moment, but there is simply too much sucky news to have a good ol jolly good christmass time. Beh.

I blame the USA and all the media. ;-)

But... our Christmas will be as good as ever, and I'll have lots more time with my family. :-)

If you're in a good position right now, instead of simply lamenting other people's unfortunate positions, perhaps you could boost your spirit by helping out somewhere. You could volunteer at a shelter/soup kitchen/other service for the needy. Or you could donate gifts/clothing/toys/food to places that need it. You could visit the hospital and see if there is any way to bring a little cheer to people cooped up there for the holidays.

So many opportunities to simply lift the spirits of others, and at the same time, perhaps lift your own.

Excellent suggestions. It doesn't do any good to sit around lamenting the way the world is going and getting yourself into a depressed funk. Go out and do something to lift your spirits and celebrate the things worth celebrating - and if that means doing something to help others, so much the better!

Can I quote you on that Brent?

Seriously. If it's OK with you, that's going on my wall ... and anywhere else I can think of!

Good points, and I've been doing that already (donating stuff to organisations whom distribute food to the needy). But it is simply so contradictionary when you read about shopping records, bank parties still going on in London -they simply order 250 dollar bottles of champagne instead of the 350 dollar ones they used to.., etc, etc and on the other side you hear from friends all the other more personal stories of people getting in really deep shit. And since I know many people abroad, not all have a nice social security system (including the voluntary shelters etc) that will take care of them.

Not so much depressed, more pissed off.

You can't change the world but you can refuse to let the world change you!

This is a good time of year to count the blessings you have to be grateful for, and should your cup runneth over, pass it to the person next to you.
