Using basic first year college algebra equation of exponential growth we can get an idea of how many members DPC would have in 2010, 2015, 2021, and so on.
DPC started in 2002 and introduced the members option during the same year and from that time it has grown from 89 members the first year to a total of 1357 members as of today, 12-14-2008.
Membership grew 152%, 295%, 133%, 157%, 112%, and 145% the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th year respectively. That̢۪s an average growth of 166% during its first 6 years.
So what if we take the constant of 166% and go out say 5 year, 10 years, or somewhere in between or beyond. What would DPC membership look like?
With the Doubling time being within 1 year we can image the numbers would be large but how large? Below will show you what, if DPC stays on its current growth rate would look like in the future.
Currently DPC has 1357 members but using this basic formula you will find that at the end of 2010 DPC would have around 3725 members, 2015 – 46501 members and on its 20th anniversary DPC could have as many as 961,763 members.
Now try voting on challenges with that many members :) Or seeing how long it would be before getting your first vote. And we thought a challenge with 800 entries was big!
And to Langdon, what would he look like, a small Bill Gates because his $25 membership fee (if it stays the same) would gross him $24,044,075 in the year 2021.
Couldn't sleep so I had to occupy my mind....
