After the post in the forums on Paypal and because of my own experiences with them, I did a little research...
Might I suggest looking into another method of payment for memberships here at DPC?
Can you use the same credit card processor you use with DPCPrints?
This isn't a threat or anything like that, but if there is no way to pay to renew my membership other than PayPal, I won't be renewing my membership when it comes due as I will never use PayPal again.

I couldn't use Paypal even if I wanted to. I've tried before (at eBay) but they won't accept payments from South Africa. |

A lot of people seem to have issues with PayPal, mainly linked with Ebay. On the flip-side of the coin, I've used PayPal for numerous business transactions as well as to sign up for DPC without any problems whatsoever.

I also have never had any problems with PayPal. I've been using them almost since the day they started, and have never had a bad experience with them. |

Do you need to use Paypal to become a member? If so, there has to be another way!

Shari,
I know there are specific concerns, well founded, regarding PayPal, e.g. they do not accept payments from some countries, and we DO have an international membership. I too would welcome another path to payment. I do think, however, that payPal is taking some undeserved crap. I have paid for many e-bay purchases through PayPal with no problems, as well as paying my DPC membership renewal this month, also with no issues. I would be interested in hearing any specific results of your research.

Specifically, they are holding my Paypal account hostage because a lying, fraudulent ebay buyer claims they didn't get the leatherworking supplies I shipped.
Specifically, they have done the same and worse to many other people.
Specifically you can read the horror stories at PayPal Sucks (one of many similar sites).
Like I said, I'm not holding my support of this site hostage to their changing their methods. However, since PayPal is currently the only method accepted for membership payment, I will not renew until another option is available (and yes, I'm aware I have several months before my membership runs out...but change takes time).

Well, I have NEVER entered a credit card number or bank account number in a computer. DPC is happy to accept checks or money orders thru the mail. All you have to do is ask.

Cant DPC accept cheques or demand drafts? This will help people from INDIA (if there are any other than me) or other asian countries to easily become a member too! :) |

If you use the Help>Contact menu item you can write directly to the admins and they can email you arrangements for paying membership fees by check or money order or some other financial instrument.

PayPal issues are magnified if you are outside of the USA, as many members are, for example I am from Canada. They charge me surcharges and exorbitant exchange rates. All in all, if adds about a 20% premium to deal with them. I have voiced my concerns numerous times, but they fall on deaf ears. I recall communications exactly one year ago from the Administers promising to investigate an alternative. But, I do not know of any alternatives offered to date.
Cheques and Money Orders from outside of the USA are a great deal of fun too. With several additional charges, time, and hassle. You would think that in this day and age of the WWW that someone would have figured out how to make this thing actually world-wide.
I use payments to other countries and cities, for example to Geneva for the United Nations ITU-R without any issue whatsoever. Conversion of the Swiss Franc to the Canadian dollar is at bank published rates for the spot rate for the day - no problem. Perhaps, it is better in Europe? |

Shari,
If you will send email to Drew when the time comes, he will allow you to pay by another method.
