Okay so I went back to basics and set the defaults on PSCS3. I am having the same problem as before,

vibrant popping gorgeous colours in photoshop, upload gorgeous colours and I get a washed out piece of crap on the internet.

Is there anyone that I can email the photos to to show the difference in colours and how to sort it out

PLEASE!!!

I've found the same problem, and I've set color space, use save for web, and done just about everything in every tutorial I can find on the web, and it doesn't seem to matter.

So I've learned to just live with it. :/

I just sent a picture of the shot in question to myself via email and it is washed out in that as well.

So basially that means that Photoshop is making the colours too bright and nice, I have a calibrated laptop.

SO we need a solution on how to make photoshop less vibrant.

I think

I end up with this problem about 90% of the time. It drives me crazy! But I have learned a few things that help. If I edit with proof on, the proof tends to reflect what is seen on the internet more often.

What colour profile is the exported photo using? If not sRGB that's your most likely culprit.

if you're using CS3 - and you are opening a file in a color space other than sRGB, you have to CONVERT the image to sRGB BEFORE using the 'save as for web and devices' dialog. even if you click that tiny little double arrow on the upper right of the save for web dialog ( optimization settings menu ). and have 'convert to sRGB' selected you are not going to see what you thought, and that should be obvious in the save as for web preview.

here's my settings, and the photoshop color settings dialog doesn't really matter ( other than i have the warn for color mismatch set to ON ) - my working space is set to AdobeRGB 1998...

open file in lightroom 2 - do whatever to it ( lightroom is set to export using the ProPhoto RGB color space ). photo > edit in > adobe photoshop cs3.

i get a warning saying the working space is different than the embedded color profile.

i choose - use embedded profile instead of working space.

i edit the file in CS3 - save a PSD of the full size, unsharpened file - resize for web display - sharpen and...

from the upper menu choose

edit > convert to profile > and choose sRGB

then

file > save as for web and devices

i don't seem to have any issue with this color management workflow. i have plenty to vibrant images in my profile, that looked the same before i converted the color space to sRGB.

i'm - err ( not ) saying this is the perfect way to do it, just that it seems to work.

Edit in sRGB
proof setup to monitor
turn proofing on
make sure save-for-web doesn't convert to a different colorspace

This will essentially turn off the color management and show how your pictures will look on a browser that assumes sRGB.

Keep in mind that you'll have to turn on proofing for each picture or when changing from 16 to 8 bit.

I basically use Soup's workflow, but after I convert to sRGB, I usually up the saturation 6-10 pts. for things I don't want to wash out. If you go to the top menu bar in CS3 or CS4, click view, then custom, and choose working sRGB, you can see what the image will look like online.
