So I just discovered the Rasterbator, and after doing a quick search of the site, noticed that it has been mentioned before... But its been a while so I thought I would quick post my results.
JPG magazine is doing a rasterbator challenge right now, and maybe if people are interested, we could do a rasterbator side challenge here... Let me know if there is interest and I'll set it up.
The original picture:
Me holding the rasterbated image in my classroom--I printed 5 x 5 sheets of standard paper, and I'm 6'8" to give you a perspective on the size:

I love the Rastorbator! When I lived in the dorms in college, my roommate and I had an entire wall covered with one of our favorite pics. |

I'd enter just so I could tell my friends I entered a Rasterbating contest. I betcha they wouldn't ever shake my hand after that. :-)
But seriously, that looks like fun. Nice print. |

I have done a couple. Set of nine 4x6 prints forming the larger picture. Using clip frames.

I know this seems like "fun" but why not just print them that large to begin with on one continuous sheet of paper? I know you cant do it at home. But thats what labs are for.

How much would a 40x50 print cost? How much would 25 pieces of paper, printed at home, cost? :) |

is there a way to make the rasterbated image into one big image, instead having having to print off little seperate? I know this kinda defeats the purpose but i'm just wondering if it's possible. |

You don't get the quality of a continuous print for sure, but its not really meant to look like that... I don't think anybody is going to win photographer of the year doing these, but they are pretty cool, and definitely fun.
I'm planning on doing a self portrait project with my high school students using this. We'll end up with close to 75 huge posters all over the school. They already saw my example and they are pretty excited. A bunch of them are going to try it at home.
Oh, and I'm getting them printed at a cost of under 4 cents a page, so a 25 sheet print will cost me less than a dollar.
Give it a try! Do a 9 page or 16 page one to start with! |

I'm sure you could figure it out if you had a plotter... I don't know if you could import the pdf pages back into photoshop and then cut and paste them together. Actually, it would probably be a big pain in the rear. |
