If you have, or are submitting, an entry to the November Free Study, and DO NOT wish to get one of my Free Study Comment Experiment comments, this is your chance to let me know so that I won't give you one.

The Free Study Comment Experiment comments are comments that have nothing to do with critique or technical commentary about the photograph, but are instead little jokes, anecdotes, stories or musings about what I personally see in the photograph when I look at it. You can browse my comments Here to get a better understanding of what these are (go to about page 4).

To date, I have had a few people that have expressed a view that they'd rather not have gotten one, so this is my way of respecting that not everyone is receptive to this idea.

So if you wish to opt out, Private Message me the title of your entry, and I'll be sure to give it a pass in the commenting. I am not voting in this challenge, so your anonymity or lack thereof won't be an issue.

Since I only give out 100 comments, the chances aren't exactly huge that people get one anyway, but if you think they're a waste of time or don't agree with them, then this will make it a 100% chance that you'll be spared.

Only 3 days left before the beginning of the Free Study.

For everyone else, good luck, hope you enjoy if you get one.

perhaps it would help people decide better should they know what the "Free Study Comment Experiment" is about.
but anyway, i think you should just comment as you like :)

I am the best photographer on this site, that is pretty clear and therefore I only want comments that suck up to my huge ego.....

I planned to enter last month's freestudy ONLY in hopes of one of your comments, only to remember it was deadline day 40 minutes before rollover :(
How could anyone not want one? That's sad.

Why are you asking K?

I'm still waiting for my very first comment so I want to be put on the list that receives comments, k? :)

If you received negative feedback on your comments, that person must be the crankiest .....

I *might* enter something just in hopes of getting one of your wonderful comments, we'll see if I get time or anything worthy comes to mind. :)

I am starting to get pretty sick of the incessant bitching about NOT getting comment threads, then having to put up with teh turnaround bitching about people who don't like the comments they DO get.

I think I'll start a Rant!......8>)

I have gotten some quite stupid comments, I'm sure we all are used to those, and all types of comments. The more the better, at least someone noticed something and took the time to comment.

Each comment is just one person's opinion, which may or may not reflect any majority of opinions.

I'll never forget one comment, "I don't like modern architecture". Like who cares what you personally like, judge the photo on it's own merits.

If it's a Red Challenge and your favorite color is Blue, don't vote them all low.

Rather than opt out, why not just offer to remove the comment for anyone who sends you an objection after the fact? You can always edit/delete your own comments and replace them with N/A or Opted Out or something.

Leaving comments on this site aren't something for which you should have to ask permission. And whenever you offend or otherwise bother someone with your comment, it's a nice gesture for you to remove it upon request.

I guess this means you'll be commenting after the voting. Is that right? Else how will you be able to honor opt out requests. For the record, I'll opt in, now that I understand what you're doing and why.

Ya know, there's a thought!

Sign-up for the K10DGuy comment list!

If you're willing to forgo the vote.....or, just wait 'til after the challenge, although personally I like the extra delight in opening up the comments and finding one from Ed.

That won't prevent them from getting one of mine, which come out during the challenge in random spatterings, when a flash of inspiration strikes me. The Puzzle macro challenge was a good one for giving out odd comments.

I'm surprised to hear that some were irritated at your comments, but some may not have a sense of humor.

It works because it's random and based on my doing it independent of requests. If I did it based solely on requests, it would become overwhelming, and the capacity for hurt feelings would increase seven-fold.

No, I'll continue to do it the way I'm doing it. I have considered doing it after the challenge, but it'd just lose that element of surprise and randomness that I really enjoy.

No, I don't vote in Free Studies (I do all my voting on regular challenges), so people who may wish to opt out can send me a Private Message with the title, as I explained in my OP.

Although nshapiro had a much better idea. It never even occurred to me to edit comments later.

I want one of those comments. :-( I guess that means I have to enter. Maybe you should start a "comment story" thread and invite people to post a request for a story comment on any of the pictures in their portfolio. I'll bet you'd have your work cut out for you.

I would, too much work cut out for me. lol. Also, it'd water things down way too much. There's only so much creativity in this old bean.

For what it's worth, Edward, I have had challenge entrants reject a comment after I had spent up to an hour studying and considering an image before committing my thoughts about it to the comment box.

Ok, I didn't really intend for this thread to become a "GET THE WHINERS!" thread. I'm not so militant about people that don't have the same ideas and interests and feelings that I do. I respect that people may not want a story on their photo that has nothing to do with critique or praise. I get that. I was just trying to offer something for people with those wishes. I don't really appreciate people calling them out.

This is DPC though, so I was probably a little naive.

nshapiro, I'll remember your idea and make it a personal policy as well.

Please, people, let's not turn this into a witch-hunt or anything ok? Breathe deep, let it go.
