it's always fun watching the dayly traffic turning totally chaotic after a night of snowing, because people are so absolutely stumped and surprised about that white stuff even tho it's been forcasted many days ahead...lol

LOL I hear ya...I still can't get over how many owners of ginormous SUVs with huge luggy snow tires continue to drive like idiots, then act all shocked when they end up in the ditch and/or rolling it. Don't buy into the commercials, people, it's all bullcrap! |

People assume that because they have an SUV that their car is capable of getting through huge snow drufts etc...little do they know that the normal road tyres they have fitted are completely useless in this weather. |

Yep!
It's four wheel DRIVE, not four wheel STOP......6000 pounds of rolling crap does NOT stop in this stuff.
It always amuses me how badly people drive in the snow. You seriously have to know what you're doing and ANTICIPATE everything.
Question: What's the difference between an ABS equipped car and a non-ABS equipped car with an ice-covered intersection?
Answer: The ABS equipped car goes straight through the intersection without stopping instead of sideways through the intersection without stopping.

In order to earn your keep you will be expected to organize my studio, assist with shoots, clean the place every so often and of course brush Druli and Lily and clean their litterbox.
And oh yes you will be expected to keep my driveway shovelled and dig out my car:
Any takers? ;-) |
On my way ;-D! |

All this for 2 1/2 inches of snow? lol Call the army! (inside Canuck joke) eheheh
Unexpected snow is always a drag on traffic. :| |
Not exactly..... I think we get as much snow in Finland as you guys do in Canada, at least usually (last year was light). Pretty nasty blizzard here. And as predicted my flight inside Finland was cancelled. This is the first time that has happened to me due to weather. |

The snow came and now is gone :( Having snow in Belgium is certainly a "rare" event.
But it sure was fun this weekend. I even had a snowman :)
ps: I miss the snow I used to have back in Romania |

here's an interesting comparison.
the bottom pics of were taken in winter of 2006/07 during my stay in iceland, the top pics were taken and provided by my icelandic friend bjössi in the winter of 1995/06, he told me that was the craziest amount of snow he'd seen in his life, they had to dig a tunnel in order to get out and inside the house, plus he couldn't find his car for nearly 2 weeks because it was completely buried under the snow.
they luckily haven't had as much snow ever since.

I should have shoveled my drive this morning (Munich). Had about 10cm of new snow over night. But I figured it would warm up during the day and melt it.
As for the SUV's ending up in the ditch. They have a big disadvantage because they mostly weigh loads more than a joe average car. They are fine accelerating or going in a straight line, but stopping or cornering despite their 4WD they are usually wored than other cars.
I have a 4WD that looks like a normal car. Is a little higher but not much heavier. Winter tyres also. |

I had to go and pick up a new pump for my well yesterday and drove over a mountain pass here in Norway called "Suleskard". This crossing is only open in the summer time due to snow. The picture above shows what it looks like before the snow accumulates too much. I took this with a snapshot camera while driving so quality is not the best.
I drive this crossing twice per year and it is truly spectacular.
Edit: The township only bother to blow one of the lanes. This is also why we do something called "Convoy driving" over the mountain. We have to wait for a "follow me" truck that shows the way and drive one direction at the time since there otherwise is not enough place for meeting vehicles.

I love my snowshoes. They're awesome for getting out and about when the white stuff piles up. They're so much easier than skis too. If you can walk, you can snowshoe.

Saw something quite funny.
Guy drives up to the roundabout in his Range Rover sport, obviously thinks he is brilliant with his £80k car and 4 wheel drive, goes around the corner at normal speed, the rear end steps out and the stability management clearly cuts in to take control of the situation, bloody idiot haha.
On the other hand, a nice Subaru Legacy b-spec takes the corner with ease. |

Lol that's my take on it too...not to mention that when I have to hoik in 40lb bags of wood pellets for my stove, it's a helluva sight easier to do it on snowshoes than x-country skiis! Also, now I go hiking near the snowmobile club's trails. Not only do snowshoes not need wax or stuff like that, but they won't ruin the snowmobilers' tracks. |

This was a few years ago, but, one cold and icy morning, I was driving on the freeway to work. Like everyone else, I was putting along at about 30mph because it was pretty slick. I come up behind this semi that's going about 25 mph, so I pull into the left lane to pass. About halfway past the semi, this moron in his Explorer comes flying up behind me, blinking his lights, tooting his horn, his bumper about 2" from the rear of my car. I don't speed up. Once I pass the semi and get into the right lane, he shoots by at about 50+ mph, letting me know via sign language that I was #1 in his book.
Fast forward about 10-15 minutes.
I'm still puttering along about 30 mph because it's still icy. I see a vehicle off in the ditch, wheels up to the sky. It's a Ford Explorer. Yep, it's my buddy, standing knee deep in the snow in his nice suit yapping on his cell phone. I honked and waved, he let me know I was still #1.
