| Well, you anti-gun folks won't have long to bitch. Obama and his new brown shirt army will be around to collect them. Then only his army and the other group of bad guys will be the only guys able to defend themselves and their family. You should feel really safe then. Help should arrive to defend you in a few days. |

You are talking about YOUR government, right? You, The People, chose this government, right?
Is being un-democratic part of your reason for wanting the right to own guns? You feel that maybe, one day, you'll need those guns because, You, The People, chose a government that didn't suit your needs? |

| being pissed off at the government for trying to disarm everybody except the military/police is possiblty the dumbest thing i've heard, in a long time at least. |

The issue of self-defence is very real to a lot of people. No matter how good your police/military might be, it will take a few minutes for anybody to come to the rescue...then maybe shoot you instead of the bad guy. Can't a man defend his own person, family, and property against immediate violence?
The issue of responsibility and self-determination is very real as well. The government, more and more, is taking responsibility for our actions. We should be able to decide freely whether we need a weapon or not. I personally don't, nor do I hunt, but it should be an adult, responsible choice, not up to nanny government to decide.
The issue of rejecting a government "elected by the people" will only come up should that government exceed it's constitutional power and refuse to bend to the will of the people that elected it..."tyranny" if you will. Do we want the populace unarmed and unable to throw off a yoke it did not place upon itself?

It's a simple answer - it's the person.
If a gun control included some sort of pshyciatric evaluation and an aptitude test it would, to some extent, filter out possible homicidal candidates.
Guns can hardly be classified with cameras, as guns have no other purpose but to destroy something - whether it's a target, or a life (human or animal). |

Come on, you know the democratic process only requires majority and of course there are people who did not vote for the winner of the election or, in the case of the USA, simply did not vote at all. We had John Howard in office here in Australia for several terms and I do not recall voting for his party once.
