Yeah turned my score on and I am down another .2 so that's a full .7 in around 24 hours, I've not seen anything like this before with reports from long term members seemingly amazed by the drops.

I would be interested to know if there has been an unusually high sign up of new registered users in the last 6 weeks though.

I've been pointed to a string of new registered users with very low vote percentages a number of times now.

Have you reported that to SC?

I did report a few a while back and was told that they'd be watched. I dunno that anything came of it. I can't remember who it was that pointed a few out just yesterday, but it was a forum post.

I've said a few times that when I was getting low scores I sometimes check the whose online thing and often there are new users with extremely low avgs, also I notice some very old accounts 2005 sort of age, with practically no useage for instance <200 votes, no challenge entries etc but suddenly voting ... Something smells fishy but I dunno what can be done about it really.

Ahh, it must have been you then.

I agree though. Something does feel very, odd. If it was only newbies like me wondering about things I'd dismiss it as newbies learning the ropes, but I too have seen too many long-time users questioning things more than usual, even more than when I first joined.

Definitely one for the SC.

Well, I'll maybe start making a list of names when/if I see them again. However, this isn't just a registered user thing either, as the last member challenge I entered suffered from a very similar thing. Although that was Wildlife and could be chalked up to the whole zoo/non-zoo kerfuffle. Who knows.

We'll likely never get to the bottom of it and this'll just go down as another DPC trend.

I've been slapped hard today as well.

I went from 6.56xx at 100 votes to 6.36 at 130 votes. Most of the drop occurred over the last 10 votes, but I don't recall what my score was, but it was over 6.5. Maybe today's voters think 10 is bad and 1 is good! ;) (Please no jumping on me for "complaining" about 6+ score)
11/07/2008 06:22:47 PM · #138
yup, I went from 6.69 at 100 to 6.48 at 130 as well, and likewise, most of the drop in the most recent votes.
11/07/2008 07:04:07 PM · #139
To continue the trend, I got a bunch of 2's and 3's this afternoon, and then a 2 was immediately followed by a 10.

After 2 years of membership in here, I've never seen it this bad. Something is DEFINITELY going wrong in voting in here. I've been saying it all along and for those of us who are not "new" to DPC, we have seen the changes. Worst of all, there's no explanation as to the the 1, 2 and 3 scores being handed out like candy whereas once upon a time, there was at least, an explanation that could be considered.

There are fewer comments, unexplainable lower scores for a lot of people. Some say that they have noticed some illegal activities in entries/voting. I think a lot of us are baffled and frustrated.

I had a comment on one of my shots, saying that the photos on my front page with 6 average scores are something to be grateful for. Yes, I agree that I treasure those dearly BUT, those kinds of scores were gotten BEFORE all of this stuff started happening. Now, I'm lucky to get scores in the mid 5's and the last 4 or 5 challenges, it's been in the 4 ranges or JUST into the low 5's.

Something is very wrong and very unfair going on!

I just had a look through your recent entries that have been scoring a lot lower, and then compared them to your entries that got 6+ scores, because I was wondering just how deep this scoring trend might be, and you seem to be one of the most vocal people on here about it.

Well, I have to say, and I'm saying this with honesty and in your best interest:

Your recent work is hands down nowhere near the level of that 6+ work you have in your portfolio. It simply isn't. While I do think that something strange and crazy is going on regarding voting and voting trends right now, I don't really think that your implication that your recent scores as compared to your former 6+ scores is a result of these trends is very accurate.

Yes, I think that maybe some of the scores you've received lately have been a touch lower than they could have been, but by that I mean that I could see them gaining maybe 0.25 - 0.50 due to "low troll voting" trends (if that is indeed what this is.) I've compared them to many of the photos that placed around them in the challenges they were in and I have to tell you, I do think that they are pretty standard for that placing.

That's just how I see it. I agree fully that there are weird things going on, but like I said, the implication that it is affecting your scores that much is bewildering to me.

Seems that there will be a lot of us in the mid-4 range or lower in this challenge! Maybe, that should be a ribbon, in and of itself...or, perhaps, a team....Team 4. ;) This is SO sad, to say the least!

Well, Ed.....I will agree with one thing that you've said here.

I have been vocal about things in here...BUT....you should see my INBOX, which is FULL of pm's from lots of members who are saying the exact same things that I have said but, are afraid to voice these sentiments on the forums, in fear of members like you who feel the need to PUBLICLY tear apart their work as you have just done. You have just proven them to be right in their fears! Congratulations on the "victory"!

Now, if I were the ONLY one who felt this, I'd have to say that it was "me"...but, take a look down through this thread, Ed! How many people, who usually are able to get higher scores, are in the same category here? Has ALL of their shots dropped in calibre too? I think not. I've seen some of these people's works after scoring has been completed and the scores should have been MUCH higher!

I see that you're pretty NEW to DPC with about 3 months experience and 12 challenges under your belt thus far. (At least, according to your profile). Try 2 years and 73 challenges under YOUR belt, then you can tell me that you don't see the difference! I have watched this "swing" coming on and MANY longer termed and more experienced members will also tell you the same thing. The photos that I have scored in the 4 ranges on (take away the one joke entry that I recently put in as that was just pure a joke!) would normally have been up in the 5's in previous challenges BEFORE this stuff (whatever it is) started. The same holds true of so many of the members who have privately discussed the same sentiments with me via PM!

You're "sitting pretty" right now, Ed because score wise, you're doing ok. But, give yourself some time in this downward spiral and I'll wait while you start to see it harder and harder to score the same types of scores as time goes by. THEN, we can talk. :)

This is what we call an "over-reaction".
I didn't tear your work apart, I gave you an honest opinion on where your photography is right now compared to where it was when it was scoring. It's not at the same level DPC-wise as it was then. That's it. If you don't feel like looking at that objectively, that's fine. I don't care if you have 400 emails in your inbox. If you start doing DPC style work you'll get DPC style scores. Someone wins the ribbons every week. Someone places top 10. It's not troll voting that is causing people to have really bad scores. It's causing some crazy and weird scoring patterns, but that's not the same thing.

Overreact if you wish, but I was just trying to point something out to you.

*EDIT* And, I apologize for hijacking the thread. You can PM me from here on out if you wish. I really am just trying to help, but I guess it's just a clash of philosophy
