All and sundry:
I'm tired of trying to reuse the handful of textures I have. and am looking for one or two good online texture repositories (the textures purposefully shared and legal to use without reference). Can anyone here point me in a good direction.
(a search would yield a lot of rubbish that I wouldn't want to cull unless necessary). |

Bernard, have you tried making your own? I have used the textures that people have generously shared on this site and others, but I felt that all of our shots were starting to look the same.
I routinely take pictures of rocks, dirt, rust, dirty windows, wood bark, wood grain, stainless steel sinks, old paper, stamps from defunct governments, etc. to use as textures. I often use the marquee tool to copy a portion of the texture shot and then drop it into the shot I'm working on. I use the move tool to drag it to fit. Photoshop will ask you if you want to apply the transformation. Click yes, and you have a new layer, and you can fool around with the blending modes until you get what you want. You can also apply multiple layers and using the merge down command come up with a blending of various textures. A lot of times I will make a new document and save a texture layer I really like to use again. The possibilities are endless, and the work product is all your own -- no worries about copyright and attribution.
I live along the coast, and, IMNSHO, beach sand and sandstone rocks give great grain texture shots. |

Thanks, Germaine. I suppose I need to just spend a week or two gathering texture shots. It doesn't usually occur to me to do so, so I will have to make some effort. I'll try to remember to post them here and offer them as usable without restriction. |
